Neon Positives

In 2010 the UL Authority rated neon as the greenest
lighting source in the world

Neon life expectancy is 100,000 hours but is known to work for over 30 years.

Neon is powered by a very low current measured in
1000's of an amp making it energy efficient

Neon is powered by a very low current measured in
1000's of an amp making it one of the safest forms of power

Neon is made of natural products Glass & Atmospheric gases we breathe in these gases

Neon is 100 % recyclable. & repairable

Neon has a 360 degree light output

Neon is a continuous stream of light

Neon is made in layers giving a natural writing effect

Neon is hand crafted by Artisans

Neon power supplies come with safety switches (OCM) which switch the power off if the neon is broken

Neon power supplies come with a power point ready to plug into a socket.

Neon is cool to the touch, No it won’t break if you do

Neon can be assembled on a background or in a case, so you can hang & turn on your neon

Neon can be made 3d. it does not need a backing
to keep its form

Neon is the real thing,
We could put in the cons of our imitators but with the positives of neon there is no need

An Argon tube made for Neon Signs Part 2. What happens if this tube breaks? The argon gas & Hg will not come flowing out they are pushed back into the tube by the atmosphere rushing in to fill the vacuum. With the operating temperature of the tube being around 30 to 40 Celsius most of the Hg placed into the tube remains liquid through the life of the tube meaning that Hg it will not be inhaled if you are close by. There is also a very important safety device built into or connected to the transformer. It is an Open Circuit Monitor, which like a safety switch will immediately turn off the transformer automatically, making it safe from an electrical shock. Authored by Steven Cole who has had more than 40 years of knowledge working in Neon

An Argon tube made for Neon Signs

Argon & Neon tubes make up the vast majority of tubes made for neon signs

It is glass tube that is heated & bent into shape by a Glassbender. Most the time it has phospor powder inside the tube. The tube has electrodes spliced onto each end. The tube is then processed by connecting it to a vacuum pump & drawn well below atmospheric pressure then heated by an electric charge which heats up the remaining atmosphere the heating sterilises the inside of the tube. Then the vacuum pump draws all of the air inside the tube to create an ultimate vacuum.
Pure argon which comes from the air we breathe is then drawn into the created vacuum. The tube is still at a high vacuum. Then when the tube is ready the Hg which has been sitting in a trap while the tube is being processed, it is rolled into the tube & a small amount is placed on each electrode. The tube is then connected to a neon transformer, which are totally different to other High Voltage transformers. Where is current is so low it is measured in 1000’s of an amp called milliamp.
When the transformer is turned on the electricity excites the gas atoms which creates a flow on these atoms called ionisation where the atoms collide into each other as they are flow from each end to the other.Minute particles of the Hg are also excited by the current flow to mix with the argon to create a UV light which makes the phosphor powder glow.
