IS YOUR HORSE A LITTLE TIMID? Almost all horses spook. . .they shy, side-pass, jump, spin, rear, and/or bolt, and any combination of these,  when startled and scared. It's normal!  As prey animals in the wild, these evasive maneuvers often saved their lives.

However, under saddle, spooking behavior can seriously jeopardize your safety, as well as that of your horse. Stay safe by teaching your horse to come to terms with his fears, and for you, by learning how to take the correct actions when your horse does spook.

JUST FOR A GIGGLE  here's a cringe-worthy lesson in what NOT  to do: Ride your horse to a busy urban Dunkin' Donuts drive-through to pick up a plastic sack of donuts. . .and oh yeah, don't forget to ride double with your girlfriend! :-) http://youtu.be/tEUpNxJeols

And, for those of you who are more serious-minded, here's a great article on how to manage spooking, and how NOT to provoke it!:  http://www.equisearch.com/uncategorized/spooking-behavior-your-horse/

How about you. . .how do you deal with spooking?
