If you own a business it is possible that Google will send you a free beacon. This will help keep customers engaged with you on Google Maps. Google is also 'closing' a lot of inactive Google Plus pages. If you haven't been posting you could receive a notice that your Google Plus is being closed, but your map listings will remain intact. I don't know how that works since you cannot manage your map listings without Google My Business, which is a part of Google Plus - perhaps they are separating the two? The notice doesn't explain. Beacons will be quite handy for most retail businesses as ranking in SEO includes engagement. https://www.seroundtable.com/google-project-beacon-25950.html
