What kind of people house sit? We answer home owners' most-asked questions.

Here are answers to several of the main questions our clients often ask as they talk with us about getting a live-in house and pet sitter for their home, making important decisions about security and pet care during their absence.

Q What type of people house sit?
A Someone like you or your family and friends. House sitters join Homesit for a range of reasons. They are responsible people who love animals and often enjoy discovering different parts of New Zealand. House sitters tend to be people who find it suits their circumstances at a certain time in their lives. Maybe they have been overseas and are undecided where they now want to live. They may have sold their old home and be waiting for their new one to become available. They may be retired and see house sitting as a way to have a change and see a bit more of the country. All Homesit house sitters have to supply us with references that we check, attend an interview and authorise a police check.

Q Do house sitters pay rent?

Stunning shot.  I grew up down that way, all those Central Otago places named by Scottish settlers... Routeburn, Kyeburn, Wedderburn...

We're really chuffed that one of our sitter's cats - big Jonah - has made it into Stuff blog today again.  Jonah was named after All Black Jonah Lomu (he even has a personally-signed photo from the big guy) so he certainly deserved inclusion in this 'all-black' blog post tied in with Rugby World Cup timing.

Nationally famous again! He already had his own Pet of the Day feature just a couple of months back, looking glossy and magnificent.

New Zealand's developing network of Great Rides and cycle trails around the country are giving both local and international tourists access to some of our most amazing and previously-unseen places and scenery.

Already-completed trails like Nelson's Great Taste Trail - which takes cyclists through not only Tasman Bay's gorgeous scenic regions but visiting some of its top wineries and gourmet providers - are attracting increasing numbers of independent travelers.

We predict that increasingly in years ahead our house sitters will be asking if we have house sits available in cycling-friendly regions, where they can see NZ by pedal-power.

Too funny.
We're wondering how with nine of them on the bed anyone gets any sleep? The humans at least must be very heavy sleepers to slumber the night away and not wake up with seven pets jumping on and off.  One pet's enough for us on the bed!
