The CRA has stripped a small Toronto-based Jewish organization named Beth Oloth of its charitable status, citing its support for Israel’s armed forces, the funding of projects in the Palestinian territories and sloppy administration.

The organization is registered to an address on Coldstream avenue, in the Bathurst and Lawrence neighbourhood of Toronto. Its director is listed as Rabbi David Ehrentreu.

The CRA cited Beth Oloth’s support for “increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Israeli armed forces" which it maintains is not a recognized charitable purpose in Canada.

CRA phone scams still continue.

Remember - the CRA will never phone you to demand payment of your taxes - they will send you a letter in writing. If you've received one of these calls and want to ensure it was a scam, we encourage you to phone the CRA at 1-800-959-8281 to confirm your tax account is in good standing
