So, what if you sympathize with the OWS folks but can't be one of the people out in the elements protesting, risking arrest and pepper spray and batons and worse... and you want to help, to be part of it, but don't know what to do?

This. This is what you can do, and this is how you can help.

Firedoglake.com, a site which has been doing stellar reporting for years now, decided a while back that just reporting wasn't enough. Oh, they did that too--they asked for donations to send a reporter around the country to visit Occupy sites and report from the ground. (Which is more than most "news" sources can claim.) But then they did more: they talked to the local organizers, asked them what they would need to survive the winter, and started raising more money to put toward that goal--call it a Valley Forge project. And they arranged to buy an entire line of winter clothing, all made right here in the USA by union workers, plus generators, tents, and sleeping bags, then worked with the local organizers at all of those sites to make sure that everything they were donating was going to the people who needed it most--mainly "sleeper" protesters.

100% of all donations are going to fund this. Not One. Single. Penny. is going to "administrative costs" or "overhead".

More information about this, plus information about other Occupy activities that the major news media seem to have overlooked (and other ways you can participate) is here: http://www.salon.com/2011/11/17/ows_inspired_activism/singleton/

This is what oppression looks like. Make sure your conservative friends, if you have any, see this. Found this on the Making Light entry I just posted, in the comments section; it is an image of the carnage wrought on OWS' library by NYPD: http://peopleslibrary.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/photo-1.jpg

If you look closely, it's a Bible.

Good reading, all of it.

In today's news, ex-Seattle Police Chief (during "Battle in Seattle" days) says we have a problem.

A retired NY Supreme Court judge reports police brutality: http://morallowground.com/2011/11/17/retired-ny-supreme-court-justice-karen-smith-roughed-up-by-cops-for-intervening-in-brutal-beating-of-occupy-protesters-mom/

And media who have been overtly hostile to OWS report they were beaten by police and cared for by occupiers: http://dailycaller.com/2011/11/17/daily-caller-reporter-videographer-assaulted-by-nypd-during-occupy-protests/

And in other news, Mayor McGinn posted his apology statement on his website, which is open for comments!

Not a direct response, but reminds me of Talis Kimberley's "Steps of St. Paul's" - a musical, American anthem for the 99%
