I've been discussing a beginner zone with bobpaul.  It would be an area for lower levels to play against each other and level up without needing an escort.  Other cities have these areas.

It would be an area where portals are not allowed to be above some level, probably L4.  So far, it sounds like that's the only constraint, unless someone has some good ideas about links and fields.  This would basically be a gentleman's agreement between the teams.  If someone broke the rules, they'd be berated by their team and the mess they caused cleaned up.  I suppose if we can't cooperate, the area wouldn't work and it would just go back to normal.

The area would have to be fairly small in order not to interfere with the rest of the city, and have enough portals to make things interesting.  The suggestion is south of Main, west of the river, north of 8th, and east of University.  Another suggestion is a college campus, but there needs to be more portals for that to work.  A problem with a campus is you might have students playing that don't really give a shit about the local community, and thus the agreement.

Thoughts?

I've started to finally upload my Europe pics. I culled them a bit, but there are a metric shitton. I took so many because I wanted to a) try to make up for lack of style with sheer volume, and, more importantly, b) try to remember things, even if the picture was sort of "meh".

So here's the first set, just +Aaron Feickert and I killing some time waiting for a train.

Found on /r/programming (http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/myo42/what_we_actually_empirically_know_about_software/). It's about the lack of evidence-based conclusions in software development, and the lax standards for evidence, but really the lessons apply to basically everything. If you don't care about software, you can start at around 47:00, where his arguments and examples become more general.
