At the occasion of the BIO International Convention at San Diego from 23 to 26 June, Da Volterra is pleased to present its up-to-date video introduction of DAV132.
The video illustrates the mechanism of action of DAV132, currently evaluted in clinical trials.

DAV132 is developed to safeguard the integrity of the colonic flora during antibiotic treatments and therefore prevent the Clostridium difficile infections triggered by the gut glora disruption.

"In the United States, these bacteria have been found in 4% of all hospitals and 18% of those that offer long-term critical care. And an analysis carried out in the United Kingdom predicts that if antibiotics become ineffective, everyday operations such as hip replacements could end in death for as many as one in six."

This is terrifying.

In their most recent publication, Etienne Ruppé and Antoine Andremont, illustrate the importance of maintaining a balance in the intestinal microbiota in order to combat the colonization by multi-drug resistant enterobacteria (MDRE). They point out that the intestinal microbiota has to be considered an organ that is mistreated with every antibiotic administration. The intestinal microbiota provides several benefits to its hosts and when it is disrupted pathogens (such as C.Diff) and resistant bacteria overgrow in the empty niches. This is strongly supportive of Da Volterra’s approaches with DAV132 to prevent the recurrence of C.Diff and DAV133 to prevent the emergence of resistance in animals.

The aforementioned publication is freely available online: Causes, consequences, and perspectives in the variations of intestinal density of colonization of multidrug-resistant enterobacteria, Etienne Ruppé and Antoine Andremont
