This is a fun place to take tourists. They will make fortune cookies in front of you, and if you want a special message in the Fortune Cookie, they will put it in. You can sample their cookies hot. There is usually a line of turists that go out the door, and the area is very small. I would not recommend going there on a regular basis, but when visitors are in town it's a nice place to take them.

We almost missed it. Its located in an alley-definitely hole in the wall kind of place. We walked in and saw 3-4 huge machines that make the cookie circles. Then they had people at the machines putting in a fortune and folding the fortune cookies. It was really neat!! Unfortunately, you have to pay to take a picture. My favorite part was the free samples of the cookie before it was folded. You can buy the cookies in bags for cheap(folded or unfolded). It's definitely worth checking out. They also make chocolate fortune cookies which are tasty as well.

This is one of my official stops whenever I am showing people around SF Chinatown, great for children and adults alike. I always take any visitors for a brief visit here (~3-10 minutes max). The owner is all about business and charges 25 cents if you want to take photos of the process. Don't worry if you only have large bills, he has lots of change ready. He will also offer you some freshly-made, free samples of unfolded fortune cookies. It's truly fascinating to watch how quickly and methodically the three expressionless workers process the fortune cookies and interesting to see the dough being baked and molded in the machines. These are probably some of the only fortune cookies that are handmade instead of mass produced. At the same time, this also seems like a fortune cookie sweat shop. Be careful about lingering too long or staring at a particular product-- you may be started by the owner barking at you asking what you are going to purchase. There is a small selection of different items for sale that are only a couple dollars per bag. You can purchase a variety of regular or chocolate fortune cookies and even "adult" fortune cookies. I usually go for the unfolded ones and munch on them as a snack.

Interesting and fun quick stop on a walking journey of SF. - For a very small fee, they will put in customized fortune that you can write. Great for a present for someone. - You can buy bags of the pre-made cookies. We loved the flattened chocolate cookies - they are softer than normal shaped cookies.

All I can say is, this place smells divine! I had no idea how fortune cookies were made until I walked into this hidden factory and saw a little women stooped over in a chair, carefully and expertly molding the fresh, warm, biscuit flats into perfectly folded fortune cookies. You pay like 50 cents (?) to take a photo and they end up also giving you a bunch of flat cookies and fortune cookies for free. Lol, I also bought a jumbo bag of assorted fortune cookies (chocolate, almond, regular) for like $4 and had no problem gobbling them up during the remainder of my trip. If you're in the area, highly recommend you check this place out!

this is this little hidden fortune cookie factory. fun fact: fortune cookies were actually invented in SF, not china! this place is a fun way to see how they are made, and you can sample a few. you can also write your own fortunes and order some to be made with them inside! it is on ross alley, right off of jackson street.
