The best pizza I've ever had, or will ever have, in my entire life. AND it was only three euros. We got one to go, sat down on the curb, shamelessly tore it apart with our hands and then went back to get another and did it all over again.

So disappointed. Did not quite live up to the hype.

I've lived in Naples for almost a year now and this was the first time I tried Pizzeria di Matteo. While it was good pizza (its hard to find bad pizza here) it did not live up to the hype. It's in a cool side street alley way with absolutely no parking. Prepare for a walk. We went there around 8pm and had to wait outside for over almost two hours before being seated inside. The inside is run down and cramped. If you don't speak Italian don't expect great service. In fact it seemed that no one really received outstanding service. My wife tried to order a water and had to call on the waiter several times as he walked by. Finally he stopped, rolled his eyes, and turned around to ask what she wanted. We never got the water. This happened several times with all of our orders. We ended up waiting another hour for our food, and about 30 minutes for drinks. The pizza was pretty good but honestly not the best I've had here. If you get a chance to go, and have the patience for it, I would recommend checking it out, but once is enough for me.

Def worth a try! Pizza is very good, even though you might find even better pizza in Naples (Sorbillo is just a bit further down the same street), what makes this place really unmissable is their amazing frittata with pasta!

One of the classic places to eat Neapolitan pizza in Naples. this is a very basic place, and all the better for it. It's difficult to spend more than about €15 per person even if you absolutely stuff yourself and have a good wine. Easy to grab a pizza and get out again for no more than about €5-€6

I understand Michael's feedback below, waiting 1 hour to be seated is very annoying and waiters are not famous for their service. The fact is that for many locals Di Matteo's pizza f is the best ever, unless you order chicken pineapple, chilli con carne or whatever fancy toppings they have outside Naples. Moreover, parking is not possible because the original Greek plan didn't contemplate cars. And people there struggle with Italian, let alone English (although I'm sure, dearest Michael, you tried to learn some Italian in almost a year, btw). But yes, it is better to be prepared, you will live an original Neapolitan experience, for better or worse. If you're looking for the cliché and meatball spaghettis, you're definitely in the wrong place. Enjoy!

Here you will find the best "Frittatina" you'll ever eat. A typical neapolitan dish made with pasta fried in batter.
