Today's surprising Android behavior, brought to you by Groupon(tm).

It appears that if an activity is in the foreground while the phone's screen is locked, broadcast events and/or wakelocks will cause that activity's onResume to be called, whether they were intended for your app or not.  This happens even if you don't interact with the phone in any way.  Don't unlock it, don't touch it, don't do anything, and your onResume will be called over and over without a corresponding onPause.

We noticed this because we log a tracking event onResume, and we noticed that some devices were getting a TON of these onResume events.  We were able to repro and noticed that it happened every time any app seemed to receive an intent (such as SugarSync, Google Voice, or the passive location listener in our own app).

We noticed this on the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3 running ICS.  Interesting to note, we couldn't reproduce the issue on Jelly Bean.

Anyone have any pointers to what might be happening here?

If it doesn't happen in the latest version it's most likely a bug.

I hope we follow in the footsteps of the northern europeans where it's become generally expected that men and women make equal or similar sacrifices for childcare, and that proper childcare is in the best interest of the state, even when raised by single parents.

I worry though that with the increasing divide between the haves and have nots in the US, that this won't be the case, and that instead what will happen is what's happening in places like latin america where the haves can afford to pay the depressed wages of the service sector for things like nannies and maids while those nannies and maids must struggle by with multiple jobs while raising their own kids.

I think economic equality between the sexes is intricately tied to economic equality between the 99% and 1%.

Sally,

Without you and KidSAT I'm quite certain I wouldn't be where I am today. Thank you for being an inspiration, for your determined nudges, and for your awkward laugh.

YES.  My google image search was as gratifying as I'd hoped it would be.

I'm sure the page describes a very valuable tool.  But let's be real, it was the image I was after

Huzzah! It's now possible to transfer Google+ accounts to new email addresses!  Sadly, my old content will need to stay at my old email.

I do so love Square (not only because the android app uses Guice).  One thought though, what about allowing users to hook up backup forms of payment, +Jake Wharton and +Bob Lee, so I never need to go without my morning coffee again?
