The Democratic Party, therefore, rules over this false claim to democracy the same way the Guardian Council of octogenarian Super Mullahs rules over the Islamic Republic.

In other words, the free and fair formation of political parties that is supposed to be the finest fruit of a democracy has paradoxically degenerated into the most powerful impediment to democracy.

The question is: What is the result of these undemocratic "closed primaries"?

These "closed primaries" are the bottlenecks of a closed political culture, preventing the possibility of any liberating breakthrough into a foreclosed political system.

At the heart of this imperial republic that effectively rules the world with its military might (not with any moral courage or political legitimacy), we have an electoral process that systematically bars any critical judgment of its own citizens to disrupt its mindless militarism. American citizens are as much trapped inside this corrupt system as people around the globe are at the mercy of its fighter jets and drone attacks.

These two parties, Republican and Democratic, are today functioning like two identical but competing Orwellian Ministries of Truth - systematically, consistently, unabashedly disallowing any critical thinking or nonviolent democratic action to enter and disrupt the always-already rigged election.
The Republican and Democratic parties are functioning like two identical but competing Orwellian Ministries of Truth.

Yesterday Charles Koch said he could see himself supporting Hillary Clinton for president m. Well it seems that Koch Industries was on the executive council of Bill Clinton's Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) as this 2001 report points out.

"One member of the DLC's executive council is none other than Koch Industries, the privately held, Kansas-based oil company whose namesake family members are avatars of the far right, having helped to found archconservative institutions like the Cato Institute and Citizens for a Sound Economy. Not only that, but two Koch executives, Richard Fink and Robert P. Hall III, are listed as members of the board of trustees and the event committee, respectively--meaning that they gave significantly more than $25,000."

+Charles Gilmore I'm not saying Bernie is the answer as I've not made my decision yet. But it amazes me how many don't look at Hilary as critically as they might want to.

Interesting investigative article. This line is a gem, "We sold them that stuff,” said one U.S. official, “because that’s what creates jobs in America.”
Riyadh has spent tens of billions on new weapons. But its intervention in neighbouring Yemen has not gone smoothly.

What was this guy thinking or why wasn't he thinking? He drove a Honda Insight into the water and thought he was going to make it. Then when he gets stuck he asks the reporter what should he do?

Fool get out the car and swim! He must have thought he was a captain and needed to go down with the boat.
The rescue occurred as historic rainfall drenched the city

I wonder if the NCAA will tack more onto the Ole Miss investigation after more Laremy Tunsil revelations last night.

They'll probably get a slap on the wrist like UNC, Oregon, Miami, etc.

Hillary Clinton said that “we need a president who will stand up against the gun lobby.” However Secretary of State Clinton effectively stood with the gun lobby as she approved millions in revenue for gun lobby-allied gunpowder mills. Since then she has received payments from the ammunition industry, including over $160,000 in contributions from her campaign chair’s brother, ammo lobbyist Anthony Podesta.

While Clinton has been connected to the gunmakers that make the assault rifles used in American massacres and an NRA lobbyist, less attention has been paid to her ties to ammunition manufacturers that also play a central role in the gun lobby. In the financial years ending in 2010 and 2011, Secretary Clinton approved sales of ammunition worth upwards of $345 million. The approvals included those for a gunpowder giant that Clinton is especially close to.
At the Democratic debate on 14 April 2016, Hillary Clinton said that “we need a president who will stand up against the …

Obama once called for "the arms merchants in our own country [to] stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe." Now he enables them.

A coalition of progressive groups is asking the Congressional Black Caucus to overhaul the way its political arm operates, according to an open letter shared with BuzzFeed News.

“The members of the Congressional Black Caucus need to stand up to the corporate lobbyists that currently make up the majority of the Political Action Committee’s board,” the open letter reads. “Between donors and board members, the committee is under the influence of some of the companies and industries with the worst track records of abuse and exploitation of Black people.”

The letter’s signees include Color of Change, Black Lives Matter, the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, and Million Hoodies for Justice.
Black Lives Matter, racial justice and progressive groups will soon be circulating an open letter calling on the Congressional Black Caucus to change its political arm.
