From a Facebook friend and ain't that the truth:
On CNN this morning, once again Chris Cuomo and David Axelrod, President Obama's former campaign chair, assume that Black and Latino voters will overwhelmingly support Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. Clinton spokesperson Karen Finney agreed with the pair, saying "(Black) voters have known the Clintons and there is a history there, a real trust and record on these issues."
Indeed there is a record...
One of my pet peeves with some Black folks is that we are way too ready to forgive and forget. Some Black folks can get screwed over by a politician and line right up and vote for that politician without demanding accountability. I have seen this on a local level in the form of District and State's Attorneys who, because they are registered Democrats, get overwhelming Black support despite concerns that justice in those districts is impacted according to race. I have witnessed White and Black Democratic mayors and civic leaders get passes for administrations that do little to help their Black constituents, like in Flint, Michigan.
I see it now with respect to assumptions that Blacks will rally behind the same Clintons against Bernie Sanders. Yep, the same Clintons whose policies helped devastate many Black communities through trade agreements that led to the removal of jobs from the midwest to overseas, and a rhetorical and literal war on Blacks on welfare. The same Clintons whose policies led to an increase in the militarization of police forces and private prisons that have found Black men incarcerated at disproportionate clips and Black neighborhoods under the yoke of police forces that are shooting first and asking questions later.
Bill Clinton has admitted that some of his policies hurt Blacks, but consider this carefully: Back in 2008, when a number of White voters were calling for then candidate Barack Obama to distance himself from his Pastor Dr Jeremiah Wright because of Wright's fiery oratory about racism, not only did Obama distance himself, he also gave a powerful speech that was issued to make potential White voters feel comfortable that he would not clench his fist and scream "Black Power" on Inauguration Day.
Hillary Clinton, however, will make no such speech to assuage Black concerns. Why? Because as Cuomo, Spokesperson Finney and myriad others who are caping for the Clintons aver, she does not have to because she is "good" and Black voters dont need to vet her and her hubby's record because many prominent Black preachers, policy analysts and activists will not hold her to account....
