One of the best comics out there for philosophy topics is Ryan Lake's Chaos Pet. His latest is a hilarious exploration of a number of philosophical ideas about punishment. Here's how it starts: Cli...

The company TransMedics in Andover has developed an experimental device that keeps hearts and lungs alive while they're transported from the donor to the recipient.

You haven't said anything there that I disagree with, but my point is that you haven't said anything that ANYONE disagrees with. That's my point - the only difference between your position and the position of the hypothetical person who you see as being "purist" is that you don't draw the same boundaries around things.

There are atheists, I'm sure, who would argue that unless Charles Manson is wrong about the existence of gods, there's reason not to welcome him in secular conversations. There (maybe?) are atheists who think that because you or I have taken positions that are reflective of some level of misogyny or racism or what-have-you, that our contributions should be excluded. The vast majority of rational people reject both of these as unsustainable extremes, even those you describe as "purists".

The reason that Jane Atheist doesn't want CPAC involved is the same reason that you would reject the inclusion of an atheist Klansman. The only difference is the (arbitrary) weighting scheme used to decide how important certain things are. You are certainly free to disagree with her, but you must recognize that your stance is no more or less principled than hers.
