Isn't the most obvious reason for this the old retailer stunt of getting publicity on people fighting each other over the cabbage patch kids the first weekend, then answer the great "Wha..." that arises with an ample supply that you held back to create the shortage? I'd put that in "most likely reason," and I'm not being cynical. I haven't tried one, don't think I'll have any reason to try one, but that's me, and there's obviously a lot of different folks in the world. Good luck, Microsoft. But yeah, two things I can't stand are all the pre-announcment announcements of things you may see in the new Microsoft X-Thing, which creates a perception in Microsoft fans that their pre-announced thing that you see for 15 seconds and nobody is allowed to touch is rilly, rilly great! But Microsoft has changed their business model a great deal in the last three or four years. I think they're doing a lot of the right things to continue on top, but who knows?
