AND THEY'RE OFF... The official Iditarod 2015 race began yesterday. Pictured below is one of the sled dog athletes who can't wait to begin the race. Also, musher Dallas Seavey (winner of Iditarod 2012 and 2014) is competing again this year! You may also recognize Seavey, age 28, from Ultimate Survival Alaska that aires on the National Geographic Channel. Thanks to Dr. Horne for the pictures! Follow the race closely at http://iditarod.com/.

We are very excited to announce that Dr. Horne has been invited back as a Veterinarian in the 2015 Iditarod Sled Dog Race, beginning March 7th.
"You can’t compare it to any other competitive event in the world! A race covering 1000 miles of the roughest, most beautiful terrain Mother Nature has to offer. She throws jagged mountain ranges, frozen river, dense forest, desolate tundra and miles of windswept coast at the mushers and their dog teams. Add to that temperatures far below zero, winds that can cause a complete loss of visibility, the hazards of overflow, long hours of darkness and treacherous climbs and side hills, and you have the Iditarod. A race extraordinaire, a race only possible in Alaska."

What a great effort from the OBX community this holiday season! Together, our Rescue Me Tree collected thousands of dollars in dog & cat food, treats, toys, warm bedding, supplies, etc. for our local Beach Food Pantry & Feline Hope Animal Shelter! A special THANK YOU to Dr. Horne & Karen for their monetary donations towards both of these great causes! What a great way to kick off 2015!
