Thank you for your honesty. I still find it hard to talk about my anxiety - even though I know there's nothing to be ashamed of as ita just part of me, I am always convinced that once someone knows they will see me as crazy (and not in the good way), not to mention vulnerable. I am working towards being more open about it, and I'm grateful for people like you who remind me it is not something I'm going through alone.

As for ways to cope, when I feel myself panicking I try to stop and just focus on breathing in and out, one breath after another.

I have always liked both guys and girls and I've never had an issue with it, or tried to analyse it - so glad to watch a video where someone can put that into words, as most people seem to expect a clear label when it comes to sexuality (I believe sexuality is on a spectrum and therefore there's a lot of space between 'gay' and 'straight'). Honestly, my opinion is if you're not hurting anyone, do what makes you happy (and thinking you're going to disappoint someone by your choices doesn't count as 'hurting' them).

I'm the same as you by telling my 'personal' stuff to pretty much everybody. However, if anything it makes me feel more connected and that my experiences have some kind of impact on others - they see a bit of my life they missed (and likewise, when they tell me things it gives me a chance to see someone else's life). Sometimes I am hit by how insignificant I am, but honestly that thought usually makes it harder to bother doing anything. I have to remember that while Iau be insignificant to the rest of the world, I am significant to a handful of people (and when I tell someone something, that makes me a part of their lives, regardless of their response).

A few years ago I received the Man Booker shortlist for that year as a gift and I loved it. I havent read them all and I didn't love all the ones I read, but any of them were authors and styles,I wasn't even aware of. As you say, winning a literary prize or being shortlisted doesn't necessarily make those books better than any others, but it gives the public (especially non-readers) a chance to find and have opinions on books someone else is talking about.

I have depression and struggle most days with feeling low and unmotivated. Two things I find help are: writing it all out (preferably pen and paper but typing can work too), not necessarily read it later, but more just to get to the root of the negative feelings, and as Fleur says, get it out; and when I'm in better moods I write myself positive notes and quotes (such as 'you are awesome') on post-it notes and stick them around my flat where I know I'll see them next time I'm struggling.

Can't believe you managed to pronounce 'Elphaba' wrong (the el-fur-bur).

One tip I've found useful is taking pictures of things that have memories, but that I don't really need anymore. Therefore you keep the memory but not the item.

And talking about photos, digital photos are something I'm always trying to organize, when sometimes it is better to print out what you want and delete anything that isn't worth printing.

Introduction
I'm 26 and only beginning to find myself. I am many things including a crafter, a book enthusiast, a writer and a dreamer but I've spent too long hiding behind these titles; now I am looking for the girl behind the labels.  I am searching for meaning and connection - I love getting to know people and being nosey about their lives - though for now I have to limit this from behind a screen as I suffer from M.E. - thank the gods for the internet!

I blog about all of these things and more at Empty Thoughts, Rewritten (if that's how you found me, please stop and say hi, and if even if you didn't, say hi anyway!).
