Day 182 - Happy Canada Day Eh! It's the middle of the week and Canada Day too. This one today, I had a bit more time. The initial sketch and tone coloring was done with Mischief (madewithmischief.com
) and the coloring effects was painted in Adobe Photoshop.
The image is really black and white. I paint the depth with light grey and layered it, to give the character a 3D look. Then the sketch was exported as a PSD at 12x20 inch 300dpi, to Adobe Photoshop.
From Adobe Photoshop, I did a yellow to green gradient layered that I blended (Layer Blend Mode) on top of the drawing. This gave the look of light shinning down on the face and the tentacles are in the dark. The background is another gradient layer, but this time it's blue to dark green. This I wanted to have a ocean blue above to a green deep scary look. The yellow sunlight was really two separate layer, one in the back and the other a the top most layer, using just a soft airbrush stroke. Fat/large brush stroke for the background and thin for the foreground and this gave the image that sunlight was streaking in from the top and fading.
OK, sorry for the long read. I hope this explain my process. Let me know if you are interest in seeing this explain via a video. #art #conceptart #davyjones #canadaday #fanart #illustration #sketch #drawing #character-design #madewithmischief #photoshop #digitalpainting #piratesofthecaribbean #pirates
