318i motor rebuild complete! 22 miles on it, no issues except for a known problem where the low-speed cooling fan circuit isn't working. Still troubleshooting that.

I am teaching a Wi-Fi Intro class at +Open Lab Idaho this Wednesday. Free for anyone who wants to come!
This time at Hack Night, Open Lab Idaho is delving into the mysterious world of Wi-Fi!

In this session, we will learn how Wi-Fi works, and how to deploy and optimize wireless networks for speed and reliability. We'll also get to see some live examples with both free and professional Wi-Fi tools. Whether you are administering a wireless network at your workplace, or just want to improve your wireless network at home, or just plain want to know how it works, this class is for you!

Session 1 / 6:30-7:30
Wireless History and Standards (a/b/g/n/ac)
Types of Interference (Adjacent, Co-channel, Non-802.11)
Spectrum Analysis
Home Network Planning and Configuration

Session 2 / 8:00-8:45
Packet Analysis
Frame types
Client Arbitration
Intro to Enterprise Network Planning

This class will serve as an introduction to Wi-Fi. Feel free to attend only the first session, or both sessions if you aren't bored to tears. :)

Several free and very shiny professional troubleshooting tools will be present for you to play with. If you'd like to being a laptop running Windows to try the tools, feel free. If you are an elite Linux or OS X user, Windows in a virtual machine would be equally beneficial, as long as you also bring a USB wireless adapter for the virtual machine.

Intro to Wi-Fi will be taught by Joel Crane, a member of Open Lab Idaho, who is also a Wi-Fi trainer at a local company who makes wireless troubleshooting tools.

If the turnout is good, and there is enough interest, we'd love to launch this into a full series of courses over the next several months, with contributions from other Wi-Fi professionals in Idaho. The things we'll cover here will be building blocks for the future, so don't miss it!

P.S. Payette Brewing Co. is right across the street. Feel free to go fill up a growler of their delicious brew before (and during) Hack Night. :)

Two unexpected favorite movies this year: #Oblivion and #Gravity . Both were fantastic.
