The amazing +Andrej Karpathy does it again! This time by adding a UI layer on top Arxiv. Just one more proof that old-style journal academic publishing is dying.

I used to think the top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change.

I thought that with 30 years of good science we could address those problems.

But I was wrong.

The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy...

...and to deal with those we need a spiritual and cultural transformation.

+- and we scientists don't know how to do that._

If AlphaGo takes over the world in the ensuing technological dystopia we all become parallelized solvers of go problems.

I hate listening to people who shame YouTube watchers. This one makes a very different point though.

Stop dehumanizing Hitler just so you can reassure yourself that "normal" humans aren't capable of doing bad things.

This is important to remember. There's no "monster gene". The most horrific actions are performed by human beings.

I just started watching this analysis of the AlphaGo games by 9p Myungwan Kim. From the intro it already looks very interesting. His feeling is that "She plays just like a human, in a very japanese style, maybe because of biases in the training data" -- he uses "she" because her style is gentle, which is reminiscent of female go players. It sounds a tad sexist, but mostly it feels like he's totally anthropomorphized the AI. It reminded me of the relationship between the protagonist and the AI in the movie "Her". I wonder if he's in love? ;) Anyway, I'm going to watch the rest of it now.
