Dear Patients/Potential Patients,

In order to receive full treatment or to benefit fully from the time allotted for your appointment, please arrive at the office prior to your appointment time.  When you arrive at the office at the exact time you are scheduled, in actuality you are late for your appointment!  Signing in, being placed in a treatment room, and disrobing/gowning, takes a minimum of five minutes.

I'm sure many people are wondering, "What's the big deal?  It's only five minutes."  That's correct.  It is only five minutes.  However, if that five minutes is not deducted from your treatment/time, it carries over to the next appointment.  If everything goes as planned thereafter, I'm five minutes behind schedule for the rest of the day.  BUT, if the patient after you also arrives right at their scheduled time or five minutes thereafter, the time starts to accumulate.  And before you know it, I'm 15-20 minutes behind schedule.  And unfortunately, often times, the ONE patient that does arrive at their appointment early is now having to wait to be seen.  That's just not fair.

Therefore, moving forward, the office will strictly adhere to the following guidelines:
1)  A patient's appointment time starts at their appointment time NOT when they arrive in the office.  For example, if you're scheduled for 3:00 pm for a routine visit (duration: 30 minutes), your time starts ticking at 3:00 pm.  If you don't arrive until 3:05, you're already 5 minutes into your treatment.
2) Every appointment type has a specific time duration or time allotted.  A routine visit (30 minutes) is for treatment purposes only.  This is not the appointment to try to work in a new complaint which requires a new exam.  By all means, feel free to mention it, and if the schedule allows, I will be more than happy to perform an additional exam or assessment.  However, if the schedule doesn't allow for such, you will need to schedule another appointment to address that complaint.
3) All of our patients know that children are absolutely welcome in our office.  However, in the event that you have to take your child to the restroom, nurse (breastfeed) them, or perform any child-care activity, this will also take away from your appointment time.
4) If you are running late and are not going to even arrive at the office until 15 minutes past your appointment time, please call the office.  If we are able to accommodate you, we will gladly do so.  However, if the schedule doesn't allow for such, you will need to reschedule.
5) Lastly, although your appointment begins at your scheduled time, the treatment or time you will receive will be determined by the time remaining.  In other words, you can't squeeze a 30 minute session into 15 minutes.  In such a case, you will need to choose if you would like to reschedule or receive reduced services.

Time is precious to every one and everyone's time is precious!  I respectfully request that each and every one of us (myself included) remembers that moving forward.

In Health,
Dr. Brooks
