preparations you will begin your climb to Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa.
The first day is a gentle hike across maize fields and through pine forests where you may see and
hear wildlife. Keep looking up in the trees for the Colobus monkeys. Eat lunch on the trail before
continuing to the first campsite.

increasing your chances of successfully reaching the summit and conquering Kilimanjaro. The
hike is relatively short but steep. The Mawenzi Tarn campsite is spectacularly situated beneath
the towering spires of Mawenzi and also offers stunning views of Kibo.
Overnight: Camping

favorite part of the mountain. Kibo Camp is situated directly below the Kibo cone, giving you

awake before midnight to commence your summit ascent.
Overnight: Camping

Around midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. For the next
six hours hike slowly by the light of your head torch. The ascent to the crater rim is the most
challenging part of the entire trek. The trail is very steep with switchbacks over loose rock and
scree until you reach the crater rim at Gilman’s Point.
The hike from Gilman’s to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb and, as far as hikes go, not very
difficult. The altitude, however, makes the hike long and tiring. You should reach the crater rim
within around two hours when the sun will be rising. A scene you will never forget. After
celebrating reaching Uhuru Peak we descend to Horombo Hut. On the descent you can enjoy the
breath-taking views of the mountain, crater, clouds and glaciers.
Overnight: Camping

After breakfast, finish the trek with a descent to Marangu Gate. Your last hike on Kilimanjaro is
a beautiful one, passing through the cloud forest. Watch your step during the descent, as the trail
can be slippery. Our vehicles will be waiting at Marangu Gate to transfer you back to Moshi and
