An interesting bit of research, however it would be interesting to look into uses of different social networks with learning.
I use different networks for different purposes
Facebook = Friends and Family
Linked in = Jobs (and ex-colleagues)
G+ = People who are interested in things I am interested in
Twitter = People who are interested in things I am interested in

If you are a teacher or student I would say of those G+ and twitter most closely map to the relationship you want to have with the class
