Interesting piece on the value of metacognition. But the illustration is athletics rather than on "thinking" or "writing". Food for thought. Wondering how I might use this in class to make a case for metacognition . . . and how such practices can apply in different spaces.

Here's an online tool that outlines the element of thinking & the thinking standards (clarity, logic, depth, breadth) that we want to see in our students' writing - and that have big time purchase in other disciplines. Would you want a professor who is unclear? A pilot or surgeon who has trouble with accuracy? How about a lawyer or historian who lacks ability to discern or communicate significance?

Revision strategies! If revision is about manipulating at the idea level, this acronym outlines four moves we can make when revising. Each corresponds to a particular critical thinking standard: ADD is about Clarity; REMOVE is about Relevance; MOVE has to do with logic (sequencing), and Substitute (I usually say SPECIFY) works on precision.
