Trump: durch und durch amerikanischer Vollblut-CEO. Deutschlands Exportüberschüsse: "very bad". Die müssen natürlich zu amerikanischen Exportüberschüssen werden.
Steckt hinter Trumps Regierungsstil Dilettantismus? Vielleicht.

Bet you don't see that all the time:

$ uptime
00:19:13 up 115 days, 5:17, 2 users, load average: 463.70, 462.85, 460.81

463 … and rising and I can't reboot (yet). :-(
Apparently our Docker version causes intermittent non-interruptible IO deadlocks and every process (including our monitoring) that tries to read from /proc/12200/cmdline knocks itself out… forever. And to make things worse: D-state processes are absolutely immortal and can't be killed.

The machine has 29GB of memory left, hope that'll be enough until it can be rebooted. Meanwhile the non-critical rest of the cluster is getting a new Docker version via rolling reboots. Things you want to do Friday evening…

Scaling Git is an interesting project to take on. I'm a little surprised that it's Microsoft who did it, especially since Git for Windows has always been a rather ugly duckling compared to other platforms. But hey, why not?

Now the interesting question is: when will GVFS come for non-Windows platforms? According to GitHub issue #4 https://github.com/Microsoft/GVFS/issues/4 a port is at least planned, although FUSE-like implementations bear some major performance hits compared to the Windows implementation. Obstacles that, I'm sure, can be overcome (btw an interesting discussion there for those of you who want a few insights into FUSE and its equivalent on Windows).

Schon ein paar Tage her, aber wir haben mal wieder was gebaut. 😊
fränggisch
Deutsche Version darunter
English version below
Wir baun weng was gleens!

English
Announced with the words “Let’s build something small, not that much layer”, some “small” fields with the size of 1,3 to 2 million mind units were built. “Not that much layer” resulted in 108 layers over Dresden, Halle and Leipzig at the end.
Of course, statements like “small” or “not that much” always needs to be seen in comparison. For our 14 agents with the new onyx medal and 4 agents with platinum illuminator medal, it was enough of all.
However, not only the amount of illuminator medals rose, but also the time the fields were built. Nevertheless, we would not be the RESISTANCE, if we do not resist everything. Also the fact of standing more than one hour in the pouring rain in a dark park, or the fact that you actually start working at 7am. In the end, several records were broken and the cell cycle was won under the numerous beautiful blue fields. Many badges have become "big" and the most important thing is that we were almost paralyzed, because it was impossible to play due to the fact that we broke ingress again.
For the breakfast there was then the quotation of the day: "24 hours of playing ingress is no problem, but who has already built fields for 12 hours?".

I suppose that qualifies for "Big Data". The few dozen or hundred Terabytes I'm working with seem rather small compared to this.

When Amazon presented the Snow Mobile to the public for the first time, they said you could transfer an Exabyte of data in under 6 months. That would infer that you could load 425 Gbit/s onto the truck. In fact, it looks like by now they upped this even further to 1 Tbit/s. That's quite some impressive throughput. Considering that current NVME SSDs have an effective read rate at max of about 21 Gbit/s, you could transfer 47 of them in parallel at full speed. Needless to say that most data at Exabyte scale are rather saved on spinning disks or tapes…

I'm a little behind on this, but great write up. Still worth reading for anyone who hasn't yet.
