Oh the 80's hair...

On this day:
At the 26th January of 1989, Bon Jovi kicked off the North American leg of their 'New Jersey Syndicate Tour' at the Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas.

The New Jersey Syndicate Tour, Jersey Syndicate Tour, New Jersey Syndicate Brotherhood Tour, or New Jersey Tour, was a concert tour by American hard rock band Bon Jovi that ran from 1988 to 1991. The massive, highly successful world tour was put on in support of the band's multi-platinum 1988 album "New Jersey".

The tour was often noted for its extended musical performances of songs, which would often run twice the length of the album track as well as raw emotional vocal performances by Jon Bon Jovi. Jon had to enlist the help of a vocal coach to help sustain his voice and Richie Sambora would often help out more on the high notes. The band would also perform some of their songs in acoustic format, signaling a change in musical style and maturation of the band. The concerts also required extensive security due to the band's iconic status as major rock stars of the time.

Riding high on the big time commercial success of "Slippery When Wet" (1986), Bon Jovi returned two years later with an unimpressive collection of stone-washed poodle rock cuts throughout "New Jersey". Jon and company could have pumped out anything by the time the late 80s rolled in and it would have moved major numbers worldwide. After the success of "Slippery When Wet", the bands probably had a hard time trying to keep up the quality. Yet, they managed to do this album, which has a bit more soft songs, but still some real hard rock/glam metal pearls on it.

By this time the band had perfected the technique of capturing the stadium sound in the studio and their brand of hard pop-rock with its singalong, highly repetitive choruses was perfect. So, "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Bad Medicine" and "Born To Be My Baby", which sports the same bass-line as "You Give Love A Bad Name", were written to be sung in front of thousands of people.

Been certified seven times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, Bon Jovi, with this album proved once again that they are more than just a hair band with a catchy look.
