Last week, I was visited by a photographer friend and customer, Stephen Lewis together with his charming wife, Heather. He took several time lapse sequences of me painting out on Newfort Island. He has edited it into this piece and added music. (I suggested the Benny Hill chase theme but fortunately he has better taste!). Please excuse my animated face, but I was chatting to him at the time and that isn’t a Nazi salute half way through, I was simply pointing out to sea....
NOTE: this is a large video (2.56 Gb) so will take time to download/play.
Stephen Lewis is a very talented man and superb photographer. Check out his work, (particularly the breathtaking time lapse Icelandic sequences), at www.stevelewis.photography

This was a painting done in a single day 'en plein air'. It was the 'Paint the Day' event that opened 'ArtScilly' on Saturday 12th May (St Marys, Isles of Scilly, UK) and open to all comers, professionals, amateurs and children. It was a great success with nearly 40 entries. This was Stephen's entry "Stormy Valerian" with the famous rock formation of Pulpit Rock in the background. The weather was challenging to say the least but he managed this detailed watercolour artwork in less than eight hours. #Scilly #ArtScilly #watercolour #watercolor #enpleinair

As the opening day of ArtScilly, a new 'Paint the Day' event was held on Saturday 12th May. Artists and creative people were invited to produce a new artwork from scratch in one single day and nearly forty of them took part. The chosen medium was officially stamped between 9am and 11am and then had to be returned for verification by 5pm the same day. So it was a pretty intense full-on event!

Stephen had chosen his spot to paint on the coast path near Coastal View Kitchen at Old Town on St Marys, but was disappointed with the morning's weather - heavy showers and grey skies. But it brightened up just before lunch and he went out to spend an intense few hours getting his chosen view on paper. The result is below .... we think he did pretty well, all things considered!

Art Scilly May 2017 - Stephen Morris at Glandore Gallery, St Marys.

Today we were blessed with a fabulous warm sunny day for Stephen's "Watercolour Workshop for Beginnners". This came as a considerable relief after a weekend when the islands were battered by easterly gales and deluged with many hours of rainfall.

After a short demonstration of watercolour techniques, Stephen took the participants down to the beach where some chose to paint on the grassy bank and others went onto the sand to set up their easels. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon with one commenting that the time went very quickly (and would have liked more time!) and another loving both the workshop and the cake at the end.

We've also uploaded an album of photographs of today to show what we got up to (unfortunately Google has reorganised them so they are no longer in sequence!) #Scilly #art #watercolour +Visit Isles of Scilly +Scilly Scarves +Scilly Now & Then +ScillySelfCatering

It's a glorious spring morning in mid February and this week Stephen is painting out at Mount Todden, which is on the other side of the St Marys from Glandore Gallery. This is the fourth trip he's made to the location and each session lasts about four hours.

His rucksack is extremely heavy, I know because he gave it to me to hold while he put his coat on! This is one of his ink paintings and, as you can see, they are very large. Once he's parked the car at the end of the track, he has to walk to the location on the coast, carrying the rucksack and the large heavy board with the painting itself. That's dedication for you!
