I keep reading reviews claimed Jean Talon is THE market in Montreal, but this one is truly a gem. Loads of options - great pies, baking, coffee, free-range meats, fresh vegetables, chocolate, a great selection of shops, and a great surrounding area. When it's not -30 the canal walk is great, and it's close to the metro. Great market. Like.

Great selection of cheeses, meats and other goodies for the dinner table. A gem of a market, with special goodies during the maple syrup season.

Not overly big. However very nice covers all of what you would expect.

Good place to find a diversity of meat and cheese.

Its too bad that you can't bring cheese and fruit back to that US (that little customs beagle sniffs it out every time), because this is a true taste of francophonic Canada. Cheeses from every region of Canada, meats from the far west to the far east of the nation, and even veggies trucked in from the far provinces. On bitter cold weekend mornings (and there are a lot of them), the bakery at the end with impossible airy cappuccino froth is the place to hang out for the Montrealaise artsy set.

What the market lacks in size it makes up for in setting. Beautiful stop along Lachine Canal with lots of activity happening. Cycle from downtown along the canal and stop for a treat at the Atwater Market. It's a great way to get a panoramic view of Montreal. On a beautiful summer day this is the perfect activity.

Smaller than the Jean-Talon Marche, this one has a large inside area and a huge cheese shop. It's also conveniently located across the street from an SAQ and makes the perfect stop for picnic lunch shopping.

Fun walking around and looking at all the produce vendors, butchers, and chocolatiers.
