Hip, intimate veggie-friendly cafe serving Southern fare, brunch & giant subs in a former house.- Google
"Great sandwiches, though the banana ketchup alone is worth the trip."

I was very disappointed with Black Sheep. It's tiny, crammed, and reeks like old cooking oil (your hair and clothes will smell for hours afterward). It's severely understaffed with only two servers (who are also hostesses, food runners, busboys, etc.) — the loitering outside could be avoided with more staff and quicker turnover. Maddening slipshod operations aside, the food was just okay. Steak was tender and nicely prepared; fish was tough, bland, and inedible. Roasted root veggies were unimaginative. Menu is small and very limited. Wine is cheap and sandwiches are indeed enormous (24" and stuffed to the gills), but cheap food does not a good restaurant make. I'm baffled by the hype and praise this place receives.

I've never experienced anything like it. The food is absolutely amazing. Wish they would expand and stay open longer hours.

My family and I visited the Black Sheep in May of 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed the place. The customer service was excellent and the food even better. The Black Sheep is a restaurant that surprises you because it looks (on the outside) nothing like what you experience when entering it. Don't judge a book by it's cover!! I am a big eater so I was pleasantly surprised at the portion sizes they give you. The food is very flavorable, fresh, and very well prepared. Hats off to the chef and the entire staff. Very well done! We shall return!!

I've had this place bookmarked for my roadtrip for months and am so glad I came back. The service was amazing this time, waiter helped pair a drink with the food. The food is delicious and well worth the price. Bought a USS Wabash and Roanoke and they were amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone who steps foot in Richmond.

I've gone a couple times and have enjoyed each and every time. The menu selection is amazing; some things are a bit too spicy for my taste. All in all the food is excellent and the atmosphere is awesome.

It's a great place for friends to catch up. I highly suggest this place if you're hungover or just hungry. Service is top notch and the cuisine is perfect.

If you are in the Richmond area and do not eat here you have missed something special. I refuse to clean my teeth after breakfast out of fear of missing the chance to savor every bite all day. This place should be 3 times bigger, but the intimacy and homeliness of The Black Sheep makes it a must, must, must in Richmond. My new favorite local spot hands down.

This place was recommend so decided to try it for lunch today. The atmosphere was nice just not a lot of room. The "battleship" sandwich selection was good. I had the USS Roanoke which the size of it and flavor were good. My complaint was for $13 it didn't come with any sides. For that price you could at least get chips or something. The 4 sides to select from were are all $4 each. We ordered the potato salad which had a great flavor however the potatoes were not cooked enough for me. The waitress that sat us and came back to ask if we were done was good. The main waitress that took the order was stuck up with an attitude and never came back to check once food was served. If you want a pricey lunch then try this place out.
