Hope you can all join us at Beyond the PDF 2 in Amsterdam, this March!
"Scholarly communication across all disciplines is changing profoundly under the influence of new technologies. New models, tools and standards are being developed that aim to enhance, enable or entirely replace formerly ingrained forms of scholarly communication, including publications, courses, conferences and policy. The Beyond the PDF 2 conference brings together scholars, librarians, archivists, publishers and research funders in a lively forum, not just to broaden awareness of current efforts across disciplines, but to define the future through discussions, challenge projects, demonstrations and seeding new partnerships and collaborations. Individually and collectively, we aim to bring about a change in modern scholarly communications through the effective use of information technology. ..."

Whoa. Small paradigm shift for me: just realized that in Google Chrome the search toolbar has disappeared - you search in the address bar. So - it's not an address bar anymore, telling you where you are - it where you input stuff. It's just a bar. What's next: order drinks there?

It'd be nice if you could order comments at a real bar, too!

Outrageous attack on science!! The state of North Carolina is actually proposing a bill on which data is allowed to be used when talking about rates of sea level rise: “These rates shall only be determined using historical data, and these data shall be limited to the time period following the year 1900. Rates of seas-level rise may be extrapolated linearly. …”

Yes Jill O'Neill and Abby Clobridge - I'd greatly appreciate both of those! Question: is it easy enough to figure out how to submit and abstract?

Just read this amazing article on Michael Snyder, who created his own 'integrative personal omics profile (iPOP)'- imagine a future where everyone does this all the time, how do we store/publish/share/ensure privacy of all that data??
