Congratulations to the winners of our 2017 Leipzig Founder's Night

The goal of Leipzig Founder's Night is to award innovative ideas and growth-oriented startup business within the region of Leipzig. The target group of our competition includes students, scientists, entrepreneurs and businesses. The event was jointly organized by SMILE, Sparkasse Leipzig, Landkreis Leipzig, Landkreis Nordsachsen, Handwerkskammer Leipzig, as well as Industrie- und Handelskammer Leipzig on 14 of September 2017.

SEPT Summer schools at Leipzig University

For the coming weeks SEPT will host two delegations of foreign junior academic researchers and university staff. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides the funds to conduct two summer schools at Leipzig University.

A delegation of 24 participants from partnering higher education institutions (HEI) in Rwanda and Ghana will jointy inaugurate the „African German Entrepreneurship Academy“ (AGEA) Project, which aim it is to promote entrepreneurship activities in Africa.

The „Project development for knowledge transfer“ summer school will simultanously host 29 international young researcher for four weeks to better prepare them for future lecturing positions at their HEI.

iN4iN Innovation Week 2017

Our Innovation Week 2017, organized by the International SEPT Program and iN4iN with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), is taking place from 3rd to 7th July in Leipzig.
During this week, students from Vietnam who are enrolled in our SEPT MBA program in their country, are participating in seminars and workshops, discussions with entrepreneurs, as well as excursions to get to know best practices in Germany. In Dresden they visited the SLUB Maker Space and the FabLab. In Leipzig they had a guided tour at Porsche Production Plant.
By taking part of this event students gain a deeper understanding of topics related to innovation management and entrepreneurship. At the end of this experience, participants are able to put into practice and share the acquired knowledge in their home countries.

Congratulations to Mr. Yonni Cuero for successful defence of his PhD thesis

Today, Mr. Yonni A. Cuero, PhD candidate at International SEPT Program successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in Leipzig on “The development of Technology-Intensive Suppliers in Colombia: How Small Firms Upgrade Products and Processes”. Prof. Dr. U. Dornberger (Leipzig) and Prof. Dr. H. Löbler (Leipzig) were PhD supervisors.

International SEPT Program: Annual Report 2016

The International SEPT Program is proud to announce that the 2016 Annual Report is now available online. In 2016 we could further expand our activities considering the following key facts: Implementing our activities in 21 countries, Raising more than 1,2 million EUR in external funding and training fees, Increasing our team by 7 new staff members, Starting our cooperation with Fraunhofer IMW.

These achievements were only possible thanks to the continuous support from all our partners and sponsors. Our special thanks goes to all supporters at Leipzig University and in particular to our hosting faculties and the Institute for African Studies.

Congratulations to TEXLOCK, the winner of “IQ Innovationspreis” of the City of Leipzig 2017

Texlock GmbH, a successful start-up supported by SMILE was awarded the "IQ Innovationspreis 2017 of the City of Leipzig". On June 20, 2017 the partners Alexandra Baum and Suse Brand received the price in the concert house and ballroom “Neue Welt" Zwickau. The jury honored Texlock’ innovative approach of a pioneering textile-based bicycle lock.

Since August 2006, the SMILE (Selbst Management Initiative Leipzig) has been working to establish the entrepreneurial spirit at Leipzig’s universities and research institutes. The initiative is cooperating closely with further partners throughout Saxony and Germany to help young entrepreneurs, start ups and existing companies to succeed.
