Oh man, this is the first I have heard of this. :-(
I am saddened beyond words to hear of the death of Ian Murdock. Ian was the founder of Debian and the first secretary of the Open Source Initiative, among many other things. I got to know him when we both worked at Sun Microsystems and found him a brilliant man, capable of insight and charm.

Many of us were exceptionally concerned by his tweets on Monday reporting he had been brutalised by the police and saying his career was ruined. I am sure there is much to learn and tell, but the post by his current employer (Docker) rightly asks that we respect his family's grief  so I suggest avoiding speculation here.

Goodbye, brilliant friend.
