I keep reading about people feeling under appreciated.

Know that you are loved and think of this when ya are feeling down...

That and that spring is finally here and the ground will be thawed enough in a week or so to hide the bodies properly. ;)

Ok this is an honest and serious post...

If you are an artist of any kind...but especially painting, calligraphy, drawing or illumination you have to go see Tim's Vermeer. IT IS A PERSPECTIVE AND LIFE CHANGER. You will never look at painting, the creative process, or historical documentation again.

Trust me when I say you have to see this movie!

Here are the photos from last weekends Southern Region War Camp, East Kingdom 2014. You are free to use the photos for personal use, copy away. But if you are publishing them you need to ask permission and any photos of scrolls need to have the artist's permission as well. Enjoy.

Boosting signal too...

Seen on FB this morning. Passing along in hopes.

This tent was stolen the morning of 4/22 in Columbus, Ohio along with a trailer full of woodworks from Egill (Chuck Jones) and his wife Angela Parrish. The tent is 20X20 with blue trim. Wood work includes chairs and inkle looms. The trailer is white, 6'X12' (enclosed), with 2 wheels. Has a couple of dents in the front side. A side door and a rear drop-down door. Midrealm and Atlantia stickers on the back.

Course requests in for NRWC and War of the Roses for a bookbinding course in each.

And a new thing Neffie asked me to do a family bookbinding activity about a month ago for War of the Roses so I will have a family class for a limp bookbinding. So that time request is in as well.

Can't wait to get confirmations from all and get classes planned.

So...new art...I did like two paintings in college (20 years ago) because it was required.

So I want to oil paint. Pergect time to start...spring is coming...can work in well vented areas...all is good. :)

Dread...how much will it cost? All new supplies...all new tools...paints are expensive...canvas is expensive...brushes...solvents...mediums...

Then how to do it...it has been a while...downloaded a book on the kindle from project gutenberg and watched a crap load of you tube videos over the weekend. (I even learned to fry tofu which tastes awesome but that is another post).

So I looked over what I had and whst I needed and went to the store for supplies... $5.97 + tax.

Yup...that is it. It is how much a big piece of masonite costs at home depot.

I have the linseed oil and pigments for paint already...I have turpentine and paint thinner...I have long brushes people have gifted or I found in clearance racks over the years...I have gesso...muller and glass...easle...might have to go get varnish for finishing...but I am ok with that. So we are good to go.

Walk up to the edge and look down the rabbit hole...and jump.

I have done 2 oil paintings, taught by an instructor. My parents have one, my sister the other. It was fun, but I don't feel that I learned much, because we were copying the instructor, and in one case, when I had trouble, she came over and fixed my painting. Which annoyed me. I would have rather had a poorly done but all by me painting than a prettier, but not all by me painting.
