Tips Intro There is a strong connection between how you look and what your lifestyle is. If you live in any part of Bangladesh, your skin would be flawless even thought the skin tone’s dark black and your teeth would be pearly white. Your region, environment and eating habits collectively determine how healthy or ugly your skin would be.
Recently I was watching a rather interesting video by someone who claims that the British Royal family and many other powerful leaders are actually shape shifting reptiles involved in satanic worship and ritual child-abuse. I am not going to say much about these kind of videos other than having prayed about them, the Lord has taught me how they are actually deliberately shared to confuse and detract from the real truth of what is happening in the world. I will say though that there is actually an element of truth in some of them, (not the shape shifting claim), but in terms of how corrupt the world we live in actually is, which of course ties in to the prophecies contained in the Bible
Social media is increasingly being used to sew fear into the hearts and minds of people, who do not understand that despite the state of the world today, God is the one who is in control and will eventually bring an end to it all. I recently followed a link on a website for example, that took me to a video showing the beheading of a Western journalist, although I wish I had never watched it. I suspect that the person who shared it, genuinely thought that it might be helpful to enlighten viewers as to the atrocities being carried out by ISIS and others who are brutally murdering believers all over the world. Of course it was my decision to watch the video, but I deeply regret that now. I subsequently chose not to re-share it, as I believe that we do not need to witness the actual event to understand what is going on. I also believe wholeheartedly that sharing such videos is more likely to spread fear and panic as opposed to having any useful purpose.
If you take a look at history, you will see how over the centuries there have always been groups such as ISIS. The kind of barbaric acts being committed by them are nothing new. The ability to record and instantly share such things to millions of viewers is relatively new however. It is therefore worth considering how the media and indeed our common enemy uses videos to introduce fear and panic in order to manipulate the masses depending on which political party is pulling the strings. Consider all the new laws and other changes that have come into effect since 911 for example? That said I am not going to use this post to try and start a discussion on some conspiracy theory or other. Instead I just wanted to encourage you to think about whether you may be inadvertently helping the enemy to sew fear and confusion into the lives of others. I would also like to encourage you to think about whether or not you may be allowing yourself to become fearful at what is happening in the world or if you respond to such events by sharing the Gospel with others.
If I did not have faith in God or a biblical understanding of such things, it would be very easy to get depressed about the state of the world. As I reflect on this it makes really appreciate the times in my past when others were willing to share the Gospel with me even if I wasn’t ready to accept it. There were times when I was rude and abusive to such people, but one or two of them simply took the abuse and did not retaliate. I am thankful that one of them is now a friend Gary Ward, who understood that a person’s salvation is more important than our own reputation and so he was prepared to share the Gospel despite my abuse.
In retrospect I can see how as a screwed up teenager in trouble with the law, I just couldn’t admit that much of what Gary was saying to me made perfect sense or that I was really touched by his words. Instead I simply bowed to peer pressure and joined in with others in our group who were verbally abusing him, after which I never saw him again for many years. On that note, I wonder how many of us are willing to do the same and share the Gospel with or without fear of what people will think of us. Do we respond to the current global events for example, by sharing the Hope and Truth contained in the Gospel? Are we willing to lay down our pride and reputation amongst men, or do we worry too much about what people will think of us?
If we are honest with ourselves, I am sure many of us would admit that we have often avoided intentionally putting ourselves in a position where we might get rejected for sharing the Gospel. Instead we have chosen to share it when it feels safe if we actually share it at all. How many of us for example are willing to post scripture in a Christian forum such as this, but our work colleagues do not even know we are Christians? If we allow the Spirit to convict us, we may even find that we have merely been paying lip service to the Gospel and the hope and joy we had when we accepted Christ has long gone replaced by religious practices and actions that only serve to make us feel good or look good before others. You may recoil at such a suggestion, but ask yourself are you prepared to lay down your life as Jesus calls us to in Mathew 16: 24
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
I personally spent many years as a lukewarm Christian, but had no idea at the time. I have written about it here for anyone who would like to read it.
So what does losing our life for Christ actually mean anyway?
Although the aforementioned murders of Christians by ISIS is an obvious answer to this, for most the answer may lie in how we are naturally prone to lust after the things of this world such as fame, fortune, popularity, sex, power to name but a few.
Galatians 5 reminds us -
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
I would encourage you to look at the entire scripture in context, but maybe in the meantime ask yourself - If the spirit is opposed to the things of the flesh, then surely if we are aware of them being present in our own life, we should become willing to surrender them at the cross?
I think it is fair to say that many preachers avoid talking about such potential stumbling blocks, perhaps because they are not even aware of them in their own lives. If you think this is unfair of me then try going to a typical leaders conference and observing the egos on display. Most preachers I have ever heard will paint a picture of following Christ as some exciting journey along the yellow brick road, during which we will receive financial blessings, instant healings and make lots of friends along the way. If you think about it, why would they warn us against such things as embracing popularity and the affirmations of man, when most of them are doing rather nicely from being in the limelight themselves? Even when there are those who do highlight the scriptural call to sacrifice, look to see how many of them are actually practicing what they preach and you will further understand the scripture in Mathew 7: 13
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Now before reading any further just pause for a second and think again - are we really so passionate about the Gospel that we can’t stop ourselves from sharing it even if it means making such sacrifices? Could it actually be that we have deliberately chosen to carry a comfortable cross and that we have become adept at talking the talk as opposed to walking the walk as the old saying goes?
If we are not grounded in scripture and spending regular time alone in the presence of the Lord; then it seems anyone can be led astray and fall victim to the lies and deceit spread by these false prophets and teachers. Mathew 24:24 clearly warns us of this:
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
With this in mind, is it possible that we ourselves could have been led astray and could we have even led others astray? If we suspect we have, would it be easy to respond to that knowledge by repentance, or would doing so cost us too much?
How many of are willing to regularly pray the words in psalm 139:
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
How about you? Are you confident you are walking with the Lord or could you have you lost your way? Are you prepared to share the Gospel in these troubling times and do you truly understand how the current state of the world relates to prophecies in the Bible?
Have you been affected by the constant warnings of terrorism or confused by all the conspiracy theories that are being thrown around? Are you guilty of sharing videos without checking out their authenticity?
If so I want to boldly say that the only way you will definitely find peace is in spending time with the one who is ultimately going to bring an end to all this. I say this as it is a fact everybody - myself included has an opinion and something to say on the matter, and unless you are able to filter out the lies from the Truth then now is a good time to read your bible and allow the Holy Spirit to bring you the peace that passes all understanding. You wont regret it!
