Today I basically went with "plan C." Plan A was a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Actually, it was a tossup between the outstanding MPG of that, and less so of a 2009 Ford Focus with approx. 23000 fewer miles on it which was plan B. But by the time I made it back to the dealership, the Toyoter had already been sold.

I took a (very short) ride in the Focus, and two things were immediately plainly wrong. The seat is mounted way too high (O(7 cm)), and after moving over a certain speed all the doors lock. (I know the latter is a safety misfeature, but the programmers of the ECM(?) are very misguided, apparently figuring I'm not adult/mature enough.)

So, the dealer I went to had a 2008 Hyundai Elantra with about 71000 miles on it, which had a reasonable MPG, and for about the same money as the other two.
