If this was just for ice cream then I would give it 5 stars, however with the incredibly higher price for the groceries is definitely a knock on it if you are looking for basic goods. The prices are high for good moral reasons if you're willing to pay for it (1) supposedly high quality products and (2) they work directly with local producers to bring in fresher and better food. All that said, I can't afford it with my San Francisco monthly rent.

If you're trying to do a big grocery shop, head to Faletti Foods just a few blocks away on Fell. I've found the selection here can be limited but thats mostly because of the size of the store. Regardless, the staff is quite friendly.

Shout out to Bi Rite, both locations for having Saint Archer Mosaic beer. Hard for me to find in San Diego (brewery there too) where I live and a nice addition to my MOnday pizza night BYOB at Josey Baker bread at the Mill down the street.

I didn't know there was produce this good. Also the staff are incredibly friendly and seem to genuinely love good food.

The ice cream alone is worth a five-star rating, but the grocery selection only adds to how awesome this place is. The staff is also super friendly and attentive. We are visiting from Atlanta and I wish we had a location near home!

Best grocery store in the city. A bit pricey, so I don't frequent it as often as I wish I could. But grab a few made to order sandwiches, drinks and some ice cream, and take it up to Alamo Square for a fine day out. Also their checkout line has got to be the finest impulse-buy aisle in the world.

Living near bi-rite has sincerely enhanced my life. They somehow manage to take food very seriously without taking themselves too seriously. We used to think that we were very talented cooks, but it turns out the produce at bi-rite is so good it's hard to screw up great ingredients. Also, of course, the ice cream will be the best you've ever tasted. I always bring out of town visitors here to blow their minds, and they are always very friendly to let them try all the flavors. Bi-rite, please keep being awesome.
