Huge News from Larry Page about Google!

Larry Page has been described as possibly the most ambitious CEO on the planet, and this announcement certainly bears that out.  Alphabet represents an ambitious attempt at reinventing Google.   Possibly fraught with risk - but again Larry seems to be following his own advice of "having a healthy disregard for the impossible".  So they are attempting to do something crazy - break up and restructure the company rather than stay comfortable.   And as I commented on the original post -  entreprenuers are most excited when creating new things.. and you can feel Larry's palpable excitement in creating Alphabet.

Also, the meteoric rise of Sundar Pichai - who becomes the CEO of Google  - is nothing short of remarkable.  Think about it - both Google and Microsoft - the 2nd and 3rd most valuable companies in terms of market cap -  are both headed by people who were born and educated in India.  That is pretty remarkable too...and makes me doubly proud - to be an Indian and a fellow IITian! Sundar is also from Chennai originally - so that adds a third thing to be proud of for Chennaites..
Really excited about our big news, announcement of Alphabet!

44 Trillion Gigabytes = The Amount  of data that will be produced by the 50 billion connected devices due to the explosion of connectivity, sensors, smartphones and the Internet of things.

Apparently, 90% of all the data that exists today has been generated in just the last 2 years!  And that amount is doubling EVERY 2 years - it will have grown 10x by 2020.

All very mind boggling and  difficult to comprehend but all this means is that we need a new way of thinking about data and coping with it.

An inspiring story about #IIMA alumnus C K Venkataraman who  sets aside 50% of his salary to educate over 1700 girls in India's poorest villages. Kudos to him - we need more people like him!

It is remarkable how IIMPACT - started by classmates from IIMA 12 years back has created a quiet revolution in rural India by educating over 35,000 under privileged girls in over 1200 centres.

The Reality of Quantum Weirdness  leads one to ponder the Vedas!

""This is poignantly and elegantly expressed in the Vedas: “As is the atom, so is the universe; as is the microcosm, so is the macrocosm; as is the human body, so is the cosmic body; as is the human mind, so is the cosmic mind.”

Got a Minute? Let’s Work Out

Just one minute of intense exercise was sufficient to improve fitness.
There is really no excuse now for not exercising!

Although clearly more than a minute would be more helpful!

From the article :

"The men and women had increased their endurance capacity by an average of 12 percent, a significant improvement. They also, as a group, had healthier blood pressures and higher levels within their muscles of certain biochemical substances that increase the number and activity of mitochondria."

With the promotion of +Sundar Pichai it is remarkable that 3 of the top 8 executives of the so-called L-Team (Larry's Team) that runs Google, are from the  IITs :

Amit Singhal (IIT Roorkee '89),
Sridhar Ramaswamy (IIT Madras '89)
and Sundar Pichai (IIT Kharagpur '93)

Pretty amazing feat indeed!  I
I think Alan Eustace followed Larry Page's advice on "having a healthy disregard for the impossible!"
I knew I had high performing people working for me.  But breaking the sound barrier falling in a space suit from a 135,890 foot high balloon ride this morning?  Thanks +Alan Eustace!
