A recall has been issued on eheat’s Envi high-efficiency electric panel heaters due to overheating and burn hazards. As stated in the recall, “Improper wire crimping by the manufacturer can cause the unit to overheat, smoke, or melt, posing a burn hazard.” There have been 300 reports of overheating involving the Envi heaters, but no injuries have been reported. The devices were sold online at www.eheat.com and at some specialty retailers from July 2015 through August 2016. http://ow.ly/PEit30jlfGf

A New York plaintiff’s motion for summary judgement in a work-related construction accident lawsuit has been granted. The defendants are now being held liable for the accident as a matter of law, without there having to be a jury trial or any further litigation on the issue of liability. The lawsuit was filed against Altec Industries, Inc., Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., and Sisters of Life by an electrical worker who suffered injuries after a machine malfunctioned, causing him to become trapped in a bucket while working on a utility pole. http://ow.ly/mWA430jlfB2

Nearly $5 million has been awarded to a Texas woman in a slip-and-fall lawsuit. On March 5, the Scott County jury decided to award $4.9 million to the woman who broke her ankle when she slipped on ice outside a hotel in Bettendorf, Iowa. The jury ruled that Marriott International Inc. and Courtyard Management Corp., were at fault for injuries suffered by the plaintiff. Jefferson County, Alabama has filed a federal lawsuit against 27 opioid manufacturers and suppliers. The Jefferson County Commission, the county sheriff and three municipalities filed suit against the companies alleging a "long-going conspiracy" concerning the safety of the drugs. According to the complaint, the makers knew their drugs were highly addictive and that they were prescribed much longer than necessary, leading to addiction. http://ow.ly/8K3u30jle5c

The family of a man from California who was fatally struck by a car in Agoura Hills has filed a lawsuit against the woman alleged to have hit him. The wrongful death lawsuit filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges that the 68-year-old man was struck by a woman while he was walking near his truck on June 10, 2017. According to the complaint, the defendant was driving a 2013 Infiniti G37 at a high speed while intoxicated when she struck the victim. http://ow.ly/ynbp30iY56m
