Today is Human Rights Day. Three years ago, I worked up this post for my Patheos blog. In it, I pair each article of the UN Declaration of Human Rights with a film that exemplifies its essence or highlights a contemporary concern involving it.

Good afternoon, all. As I mentioned, I've started blogging again. Saturday posts round-up "must-click" items for the week. On Mondays, I'll be offering a weekly column of sorts -- an opinion piece about a particular news story. This week, I'm writing about responses to protests on the campuses of the University of Missouri and Yale. Stay tuned for more about what kinds of posts to expect on Wednesdays...

My latest article is about the the recent scheduling threats to the venerable PBS documentary series 'POV' and 'Independent Lens', which have taken on new significance in the wake of news that first-run episodes of 'Sesame Street' will move from public television to the premium cable channel HBO. Read the whole thing on Medium here:

ICYMI: My latest article for Religion Dispatches.

"To ennoble the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act, Indiana's SB 101, or other states’ RFRAs to the degree that only the uncritical acceptance of them equals honoring religious liberty is both misguided and lacking in imagination."

In today's column, I tell you why you should definitely make time to watch the Criterion Collection's 4K restoration of "Pather Panchali" on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) tonight at 8 p.m. EST.

Good morning, all. As I mentioned a few days ago, I’ve started blogging again, this time with a schedule of weekly posts. Saturday posts round-up the week’s “must-click” news and opinion media. Monday posts offer a weekly column of sorts with an opinion piece. Wednesday posts, like yesterday’s, will be video-blogs, or “vlogs.” These will be the most free-form of the posts. I suspect that most Wednesdays, though, I’ll riff about what I’m reading. This week, I share thoughts about Ta-Nehisi Coates's National Book Award-winning "Between the World and Me"...

P.S., everybody: Future episodes won't be nearly this long. I tried to do too much here--introduce the vlog itself and do an episode.

Howdy, all. I've started blogging again. On Saturdays, I'll be spotlighting pieces of news and opinion media -- readings, videos, podcasts, infographics, photos, etc. -- that have been essential to my own understanding and I think are worth sharing with you. Since it has been an unusually eventful couple of weeks, there's much more here than I imagine there will be in future "Must-Clicks." That said, I hope what is here is as helpful as it is extensive! Stay tuned for more about what kinds of posts to expect on Mondays and Wednesdays...

My latest article for Religion Dispatches looks at conversations about the Dharma, war, and peace that are currently taking place in American Buddhist circles -- including one that has come out of last week's historic gathering of Buddhist leaders at The White House.
