my very first column for Parade ran today. Watch for me on Thursdays. Love, Higgs

I just got a job. Somebody in this household has to bring home the kibble. I'll be writing a weekly feature for Parade.com as Higgs the Science Cat. My first effort runs Thursday. Please follow me on Twitter, where my handle is @cosmic_tabby and/or watch for my pieces here. I will be covering cosmology, physics, evolution, animal behavior, and many other topics. I'm pretty psyched.

While I'm here I should mention that Faye and I are bloggers on NewsWorks, and our work will again be illustarted by the amazing Tony Auth. Here's a piece about Ben Franklin that touches on the nature of the scientific enterprise. We both think NewsWorks is a great site for news in Philadelphia, but our Lightning Rod blog is written to appeal to people who live anywhere.

Our writing has found a new home - WHYY"s NewsWorks. I thought this was an interesting story about Paul Steinhardt's discovery of quasicrystals. I'm planning to do more research on this matter. It seems if he thought of the concept of quasicrystals first, he could have been included in the Nobel Prize.  At least here in Philadelphia he was recognized with the Scott Award.

I'm on the philly.com home page.

I know, I've been absent but the hot weather makes me lazy. I couldn't resist posting on my namesake particle!
