Great meal and experience at the Big Island Grill. The ambiance is not much to write about, but the food was very good. We took advice from a local to try the restaurant and we were not disappointed.

Great value home cooked food. Fish, pasta, ribs all good. Share one mud pie dessert between three (at least!).

The desserts are amazing! Although Im not sure they like you sitting down just for dessert based on the waitress' response to "we're here for dessert". The purple sweet potato cheesecake is worth going here just for it alone.

I spent several weeks in Kona and I ended up a regular here. An unassuming restaurant heavily patronized by locals, which in itself is a good indicator of quality in a touristy town. The entire staff was very bright and friendly, the basic breakfast menu was good and well priced, and the coffee keeps coming without having to endlessly ask for a refill, which is almost unheard of elsewhere on this island. I especially love their Hawaiian sweet bread French toast and the coconut syrup. With coffee, $12! That won't seemingly even get you a glass of water at most of the waterfront restaurants...

Typically busy but the food was nice for the price.
