Let’s face it, we all make mistakes. However, some carry a heavier consequence than others, such as making the decision to drive while under the influence of alcohol. When you are pulled over and subsequently arrested for DUI/DWI, there are several important steps you need to take in order to have a better chance of protecting your future. The first and one of the most important is to find an experienced, aggressive DUI defense attorney who can help guide you through the process and help avoid a conviction. For many people, having to hire an attorney is both a new and a terrifying experience. What should you tell them? What should you leave out? Here are some of the things your attorney needs to know in order to build an aggressive defense on your behalf.

Drinking and driving never mix, and in a recent case from Virginia, their combination led to a fatal car crash.

The crash occurred in southwest Virginia this past week and resulted in the death of a 21 year old man and leaving one Maryland man to be charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter, as well as driving under the influence.

Ocean City, known for its beaches, tourism, and night life, sees more than its fair share of drunk driving arrests and other alcohol related charges. This past August, Maryland State delegate Richard Impallaria found himself on the wrong side of the law, showing that no matter who you are, you can be charged with DWI.

On December 22nd, the Maryland Public Service Commission decided whether Uber and Lyft drivers would be required to have fingerprint-based background checks. Despite complaints from commission staff, cab companies, and the Office of the People’s Counsel during previous public hearings, the Commission ultimately decided that Uber and Lyft would not need to use fingerprinting but they would have to improve their background checks.

A decade ago, the maximum speed limit for vehicles on most highways was 65 mph. According to a new report by The Associated Press, many tractor-trailer tires are still designed to travel less than 75 mph and, now that the speed limits have increased nationwide, there are a number of truck drivers who are travelling faster than their tires can handle. There are even some states where the maximum speed limit has been increased to 80 mph or even 85 mph, which is far greater than many truck tires can handle.

A recent accident shows that DUI can result in serious charges, even when only a single vehicle is involved. It also serves as a reminder to stay with your vehicle until police arrive in the event of a crash.
