I am native Washingtonian (not many of us) who moved down south 14 years ago. I'm a wife, mother, dog lover and renovation survivor. These days I stay at home with my two energetic boys and loving yellow lab Daisy. Things I adore (there are some things I abhor): all things decorating, gardening, floral design, classic and Indie movies, a good read and lots of laughs. That's what you can expect to see here. Enjoy!

Some of you may know that I'm of Irish descent. I haven't been there in 25 years, so I was thrilled to meet Irish blogger Ashling of Allthingsnice . While I'm a city girl, Ashling is a country girl, and r evels in its vast glory.  I guess I might be too if ...

2016 Oscars fashion...
As in the past several years, I was not wowed by what I saw on the red carpet last night. Only one person stood out in my mind -- Naomi Watts. She is on my list almost every year. Perfect head to toe as always. Just stunning. {photo image} I'm a bit torn ab...

Holiday entertaining: creating a rustic table
I started hosting Thanksgiving at my house a few years ago after my sister moved to Atlanta. She actually lives on my street. So convenient. Setting the holiday table is by far my favorite thing to do. This year I decided to go with a rustic woodland theme....

Today is the first installment of my new regular column "Currently." Because I haven't had time to write any feature posts, I'll fill you in periodically on what I've been up to. Always mindful of Austin Kleon's advice in  Steal Like an Artist ,  I ripped o...

May I suggest...
While I normally have book suggestions to share, I've been in a reading slump for the past six months. I did enjoy rereading one of my all-time faves To Kill A Mockingbird as a prelude to Go Set A Watchman . Mockingbird is a tough act to follow. I don't rec...

Destination: San Francisco
We were able to piggyback a 3-day trip to San Francisco -- one of our favorite cities -- after our spring break trip to Lake Tahoe (post coming soon). San Francisco is a 3-hour drive from Tahoe. Based on our experience there five years ago, we knew trying t...

I'm not quite sure what I've been doing lately, but it's taking all my time. In hopes of getting some good reading suggestions from you all for my spring break trip to Tahoe and San Francisco, here's what I've been reading over the past several months. In n...

2015 Oscars fashions...
I'm happy to report that I saw all eight best picture nominations. Unfortunately, I lost my annual picks pool. The toss up between Boyhood and Birdman threw me for a loop. I thought Michael Keaton was a shoo-in for best actor even though Eddie Redmayne dese...
