VERY exciting news: a planet has been found orbiting its star at just the right distance to be in the star's "habitable zone", where liquid water could exist!

The planet, called Kepler-22b, is 600 light years away, and orbits a star a bit cooler than the Sun. We don't know the planet's mass, though it's 2.4 times bigger than Earth, and that makes it close enough to Earth to be tantalizing indeed. We don't know if the planet even has an atmosphere or not, but the important thing is that we now have a confirmed planet in the right spot for the right conditions for life as we know it.

While this planet may turn out to not be too much like home, it shows that planets do indeed exist orbiting other stars at the right place. If there's another Earth out there, we're one step closer to finding it.
