The two most prestigious entrance exams now become one.
This year, the IIT-JEE and AIEEE breathe their last. Starting 2013, the Joint Engineering Examination (JEE) is the sole exam national level entrance test for admission to all centrally funded engineering institutes such as 16 IITs, 30 NITs, 4 IIITs, IISERs and a few deemed universities. Though the papers will be set by the IITs, the exam will be conducted by the CBSE Board.
New Exam. New Rules.
For the first time in its existence of 52 years, the questions will not be purely knowledge based. The new JEE will give weight-age to the following:
Phyics, Chemistry , Maths
Quantitative Aptitude, Analytical Reasoning, Critical Reasoning,comprehension
Problems based application of Physics, Chemistry and Maths
Scoring and Pattern
1 Scores will be valid for two years
2 Three-four attempts will be offered to improve them
3 Students will get two chances to appear for the exam in the first year (2013) and the best score will be counted while applying for a seat. Subsequently, the test will be held three or four times a year.
4 The weight-age to state board results would be normalized on the basis of a percentiles formula designed by the Indian Statistical Institute which has taken into account the results of the last five years and have come out with specific figures.
Date/Month of Exam: April or May 2013
Duration: 3 hours each between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the same day
The specific weight-age within these limits will be decided by each academic institution/ state government separately.
