The GOP toadies to Norquist? Right now Norquist is toadying to the GOP. The House GOP, anyway. Meanwhile, McConnell is giving Boehner a very public kick in the ass. Who needs Christmas when you've got this?

WashPost's ordinarily astute STeve Pearlstein fails to grasp that EVEN SURRENDER doesn't get Democrats to yes with the GOP.

Nice surprise: "Woman at the Washington Zoo" turned up on Newsweek/Daily Beast's list of best books in 2011 (even though it was pubilshed six years ago):

Labor policy editor at Politico and author of "The Great Divergence: America's Growing Inequality Crisis and What We Can Do About It" (Bloomsbury, 2012)
Introduction
I'm labor policy editor at Politico, where I edit PoliticoPro's "vertical" (section) on labor & employment, and author of The Great Divergence (Bloomsbury), a 2012 book about America's three-decade-plus run-up in income inequality. Previously I was (among other things) a contributing writer at MSNBC.com; a senior editor at the New Republic (where I wrote the "TRB From Washington" column); a senior writer at Slate; a reporter in the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal; an editor at the Washington Monthly; and an assistant managing editor at US News & World Report. I edited two posthumous anthologies of writings by my late wife, Marjorie Williams, both published by Public Affairs: The Woman at the Washington Zoo (2005) and Reputation (2008). I live in Washington with my two college-age kids.
