Introduction
I'm a senior editor at the New Republic and author of The Great Divergence (Bloomsbury), a recently-published book about America's 33-year run-up of income inequality. Previously I was (among other things) a senior writer at Slate, a reporter in the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal, an editor at the Washington Monthly, a staff writer at the New Republic, and an assistant managing editor at US News & World Report. I edited two posthumous anthologies of writings by my late wife, Marjorie Williams, both published by Public Affairs: The Woman at the Washington Zoo (2005) and Reputation (2008). I live in Washington with my two teenage kids.
