At last week's Code Conference, Mary Meeker as usual presented her annual report on Internet trends.

Lots of power in new high-end chips for big servers.
We've seen a couple of big chip announcements this week, with Intel announcing the latest version of its Xeon E7 family aimed at multiple-socket servers, and IBM introducing some new systems based on its Power8 processors.

Her big point was that while entrepreneurs build great companies and should be applauded for the products and jobs they create, society as a whole needs to build the environment and the infrastructure necessary for such companies to flourish.

I like my Apple Watch, but can't say I love it - at least not yet.
The Apple Watch is clearly the best smartwatch I've tried, but it suffers from some hardware and software limitations.

AMD's new roadmap offers more server, desktop competition, but most interesting products are still a year or more away.
AMD announced a significant change in direction, moving away from low-end PCs and refocusing on commercial and high-end PCs and the datacenter.

It's not quite "embrace and extend" but Microsoft seems much more open than it every has before.
At this year's Microsoft Build, the company's regular developer conference, what impressed me the most was that the company seems to have resolved the tension between Microsoft's own platforms and needs to be open by stressing interoperability and cross-platform efforts.
