" The STEM educator has become a familiar figure in schools, with some of the cool of a guitar teacher in the sixties." - NY Times. Yes, I get to be cool twice in one life time!

After nine years of teaching middle school math, in Santa Ynez, CA, I have decided to take another position at a private school in Santa Barbara as the Director of Engineering. I will be responsible for designing and developing the curriculum for a K-8 engineering academy to be implemented in the 2016-2017 school year. I will be spending my first year researching and training in what exactly a K-8 engineering academy will look like and putting the curriculum pieces together. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for me and I look forward to the challenge. Stay tuned, at some point I will be setting up a blog to record my journey!

The guy behind me at TSA security sees my hat and asks where I got it. I tell him at the MakerFaire in NYC. I tell him a little about what I'm doing at Crane and he says he would like to hear more about it. He gives me his card and takes off. It was Dale Dougherty, the founder of Make Magazine and the Makerfaire!

Picked from my garden this morning from a plant that survived the winter. Question is: are these really early or really late tomatoes?

Fresh tomatoes and tomato extracts have been shown to help lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Tomato extracts have been shown to help prevent unwanted clumping together (aggregation) of platelet cells in the blood.....cool facts

I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice everyone at the counter, the pick-up and return were. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, I left an expensive rain coat in the back seat of the car when I returned it. I called the next day when I got home and was told that someone would call me back and let me know if they found it. I ended up calling 3 times to finally be told that it was not found. I know I left it in the car and was disappointed that either it was missed when they cleaned the car for the next customer or that someone took the coat. It was bright yellow and would be hard to overlook. I wonder if National has trained their employees to take special care when finding items in a car.

Started visiting Dr. Kozak in December 2012. He has a small office and it is very easy to get an appointment quickly. I find him friendly and very competent. He sometimes rushes conversations, but not to the point that I feel like I cannot get my points across. He has gone out of his way to help me with any special requests. I feel he is thorough and well trained. I'm very happy with him and will continue to see him.
