In July, 2015, I was hired by Crane Country Day School in Santa Barbara, CA to head up their new Design and Engineering Center (DEC). For the first year, I was not even on campus but instead worked at world renowned Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy in Goleta, CA. While there, I worked on designing and developing the program for Crane. I started teaching on the Crane campus in September this year but in a temporary classroom (actually on an outside covered patio) while we wait for the DEC to be finished. I started a blog so that I could record our evolution into the world of STEAM. The link is below if you care to follow our journey. If you have any feedback or suggestions, I'd love to know your thoughts.
Regards,
Joe

The guy behind me at TSA security sees my hat and asks where I got it. I tell him at the MakerFaire in NYC. I tell him a little about what I'm doing at Crane and he says he would like to hear more about it. He gives me his card and takes off. It was Dale Dougherty, the founder of Make Magazine and the Makerfaire!

After nine years of teaching middle school math, in Santa Ynez, CA, I have decided to take another position at a private school in Santa Barbara as the Director of Engineering. I will be responsible for designing and developing the curriculum for a K-8 engineering academy to be implemented in the 2016-2017 school year. I will be spending my first year researching and training in what exactly a K-8 engineering academy will look like and putting the curriculum pieces together. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for me and I look forward to the challenge. Stay tuned, at some point I will be setting up a blog to record my journey!
