no offence but these burgers were super digusting to me and my friends, it legit looked like some human flesh that was cooked or wasnt even cooked at all. i hate sushi and some areas tasted like sushi rather than a burger, and SUSHI IS RAW OMG! my friends and i didnt even finish the burger at all, and i honestly couldnt without gagging. the fries were somewhat ok i guess, some were quite fishy too /: and why dont ya'll have any regular sauces? the ketchup tastes odd and i'd really like if you guys had at least regular ranch for my fries, my burger tasted gross because of the meat and the sauce on it. even my lemonade tasted odd like there was an alcoholic drink mixed in it too. honestly, wouldnt want to come here ever again! anyways wish your guys business the best and hopefully it improves, best of luck! xoxo

It’s sad to read you had a disappointing experience, and we would like a chance to see you at one of our restaurants again. I am not a burger person. Salt and pepper isn't good enough seasoning for meat. But the truffle burger at umami was so very good. It looks really small considering the price but that bitch will fill you up

Okay burgers, but very overhyped for what is really just a well executed burger. Expensive for what it is.

TL;DR: There was a piece of metal in one of our burgers. And it was not comped. The whole review: Our group of 8 rolled in on a Saturday night at around 10 pm and it took 20 minutes to get seated. There were PLENTY of tables, just not enough servers, so they didn't seat us right away. Because there were plenty of seats, I witnessed a father complaining very loudly to the hostess that his family should be seated instead of just standing around. Although he raised his voice in irritation (understandably), I felt that the hostess could've handled it more professionally instead of asking him rather shortly to not yell at her. Yay good impression. When we finally got seated, our waiter was a very jolly guy, who kind of reminded me of Ruby Rhod from 5th Element. :P He was fun but in the end, didn't perform to standards (more on that later) Everyone got a round of burgers, mainly the Truffle Burger, while I got the Pigg Breakfast Sandwich. I was intrigued by the Pig Ear Bacon which was strips of pig ear fried to a crisp. The english muffin was a bit soggy and overall it just felt like a glorified McGriddle. All sides are separately charged though, so burger prices are definitely not worth it. When we were almost finished with dinner, my friend found a piece of metal wire in his burger. It looked around 1.5 inches long and he was able to extract it from his mouth before it did any harm. The situation was told to both the hostess and to the waiter, and we thought it'd be taken care of. Nope. Our bill came, and the burger was not comped. There was no manager coming out to apologize. There was no "Hey, we're sorry you almost swallowed a metal wire, here's _______ to show our sincere apologies." Seriously? My friend isn't one to press on matters like this, so we left it alone there. But I, on the other hand, hate seeing this happen so that's why I'm writing this review in hopes the restaurant will see. I would not come back since the food wasn't mind-blowing, and the customer service isn't up to par.

honestly I was appalled by this resurants food quality and service, when i got there i got to seat right away witch was alright because i know places by the pier are exceedingly populated. our waitress looking a little odd with her pink hair, diamond nose stud, and makeup done extremely harsh. She was okay at first I guess, then that went down hill. We ordered our drinks and then came time to order the food, all the burgers had complex and difficult titles that angered me as I tried to simply just order a cheese burger. The food came pretty fast, and thats probably because they didn't finish cooking it. While taking the first few bites, i felt a strong tension between me and my waitress. We all took a few bites, and pretended to enjoy the human feces that was served to us. But subconsciously we all knew we hated it. One person eating these burgers, described the "burger" to be something of human flesh. Which is totally agreeable. i really wanted to know what was wrong with the burger so i opened it up, on one hand the burger meat was still RED... and the meat wasn't even a patty. it seemed to be a certain mush of things. Also the spread or the burger was fishy, witch should have some-type of warning to the people who can't stand sea food. We weren't even able to finish the burger. It was horrible, probably one of the worst thing ever put into my mouth. also the homemade sauces they provide for you, is absolutely terrible, they give you an area space of a quarter, EVEN KETCUP witch is a necessity when you try to ease the taste of the atrocious burger given. By the end of the night we just wanted the food away and check to come. Never eat here... its overrated, and actually horrible.

The ambiance at this restaurant resembles a warehouse and is rather boring, but the burger is excellent. The demeanor of the waiter was relaxed, but on point. I had the original Umami burger with the shiitake mushrooms, which was expertly crafted. In particular, I liked that the beef patty was flavorful and substantial, and the burger bun had a touch of sweetness. The texture was on point too. The bottom bun held up all the juices and retained its shape. The outer edges were crisped, and went along well with the Parmesan crisp inside. I ate my burger with a small side of fries, which were average. The catsup and other accompanying sauces were good though and I generally don't even like sauce. I mixed them to eat the thin fries, which definitely benefited from the sauce taste-wise.

I've been on a winning streak with the restaurants I've tried recently. Umamicatessen was delicious; I enjoyed every dish and drink we tried, but there are a few must orders. 1) Pastrami reuben - seriously, the most tender and flavorful pastrami I've EVER tasted. If I could eat this for lunch everyday, my life would be complete 2) Bread pudding - so good..I can't even describe it to you. Order this dessert!! 3) Honeycomb ice cream - very inventive, not too sweet...does it come in anything larger than a pint?! The 100% lard fried pig ears and fries are also amazing. Umamicatessen has way more options than any of the Umami Burger locations, but they still make a scrumptious truffle burger. As I'm writing this, I'm imagining myself getting my hands on the amazing pastrami reuben again. I would urge you to visit, but unfortunately, Umamicatessen is gone now and going to be replaced by a chocolate chicken and waffle place--which will hopefully be just as delicious!

Let's get this straight: I am a fan of burgers, but not of Umami. So fast-forward to now and this new Downtown addition to the Umami family. It's Artwalk night and this place is crowded, but not to the max. There are a ton of tables, but my solo-diner calling was to the bar. It was pretty loud and active in here, and I'm sure with the Umami name, flocks of burger connoisseurs visit. -=- Umami Burger -=- I held myself back from getting the truffled burger, because I knew I had to try the name-sake for my potentially last visit here. It was pretty dang good. The meat patty made this burger. There was a bit of sloppy joe flavoring on the patty, which I welcomed as far as flavored meat is concerned. The bun was grilled and lightly oiled. I did notice a crispy layer in there, which was probably the parmesan, didn't taste it anyway. Everything else in there was pretty forgettable, but it was due to the tastiness of the meat. A bit of a negative was that my patty was poorly constructed, and was breaking apart, but nothing that a little sloppy meat-off-the-plate grabbing can't fix. -=- Thin Fries -=- Not a fan. Don't get me wrong, these were good, but I just don't like thin. They are hard to eat and I couldn't get enough of the... -=- Dips: Umami Ketchup, Jalepeno Ranch, Diablo -=- Let me start by saying that my bar guy Curt was awesome, enthusiastic, and attentive. I never asked for drink refills, but he knew when I needed it. I was going to limit myself to 2 dip flavors, but when I asked for a recommendation he gave me 3. The Diablo was the spicy one. It was a bit overly spicy over flavor though. The Umami Ketchup had a perfect kick to it. It was my favorite dip and Curt said there was a secret to shhhhhh. The Jalepeno Ranch was a tribute to my ranch addiction. It was good and I'd probably get it again, but it wasn't add-jalapenos-to-the-world's-ranch-supply good. Next time I will try the donuts. Everyone at the bar seemed to be ordering it, but hell...I just downed a burger. I'll bring my A-stomach next time.
