The chess world continues to react to AlphaZero beating Stockfish. "I'd assumed -- wrongly -- that the kind of techniques used to beat the Go world champion wouldn't be used in chess. I was wrong. Apparently self-learning has got quite a lot of potential it seems! That stockfish was crushed is just remarkable. It's phenomenal stuff. It's another landmark. It's another checkpoint in AI history, generally, not just chess AI, but AI has used chess as a vehicle for many years for exploration, as it's a perfect information game."

Is this game he notes that AlphaZero (playing black) uses the Berlin defense, even though it never learned the 'Berlin defense' -- it learned everything though self-play through reinforcement learning.

Mozilla releases dataset and model to lower voice-recognition barriers

Mozilla has released its Common Voice collection, which contains almost 400,000 recordings from 20,000 people, and is claimed to be the second-largest voice dataset publicly available. The voice samples in the collection were obtained from Mozilla's Common Voice project, which allowed users via an iOS app or website to donate their utterances. It is hoped that creating a large public dataset will allow for better voice-enabled applications.

Alongside its dataset, Mozilla also released its open-source Project DeepSpeech voice-recognition model based on work done by Chinese internet giant Baidu. It is claimed that with its 6.5 percent error rate on the LibriSpeech dataset, DeepSpeech is approaching human levels of recognition.

In August, Microsoft said it had reached a voice-recognition error rate of 5.1 percent on the Switchboard corpus, the same level as professional human transcribers. Earlier in the year, Google said it had a 4.9 percent error rate in its speech-recognition software.

AI pair programmer for Java. "Codota runs alongside the IDE and uses the learned code models to suggest relevant code. These suggestions save you time searching for references, and help prevent errors."

"Codota helps you when writing new code by predicting the code that you may need next. Codota helps you when reading and reviewing code by showing you code that applies in similar settings."

Nvidia unveils level 5 self-driving chip for trucks, robot taxis

Silicon Valley graphics chipmaker NVIDIA unveiled on Tuesday the first computer chips for developing fully autonomous vehicles and said it had more than 25 customers working to build a new class of driverless cars, robotaxis and long-haul trucks.

Deutsche Post DHL Group, the world’s largest mail and logistics company, and ZF, a top automotive parts supplier, plan to deploy a fleet of autonomous delivery trucks based on the new chips, starting in 2019, NVIDIA said.
