The Theory of Everything...is simply...Everything.

If genius could compress into 123 minutes, it did. Stephen Hawking’s life...genius in motion... and the creatives that came together to honor it following suit. This film checked so many boxes for me. It started with such an intriguing story...it made me laugh, brought me to tears...taught me about life, about love, and inspired me - as an artist, and a human being. The importance of having a purpose and passion in life is undeniable. With purpose, you defy the odds, with passion, you create your own destiny. Stephen was given two years, two years to change the world. So he got to work, extending his death sentence to a life of brilliance, that continues today.

Now...the acting...oh the acting...Genius. Eddie Redmayne was born to play this role...he was simply perfect, and Felicity Jones was everything...she completely captured everything needed to tie the story together. Together they made magic. I also loved Charlie Cox and the entire cast...the perfect storm.

Movies like this are what I live for. They pull you in, make you better, make you think, inspire you, uplift you, break your heart, then push you to a higher ground. Movies like this...highlight life...the good, the bad...the oh so beautiful elements of life.

Gone Girl

First, let me start by giving much due respect to Mr. David Fincher. Here’s the thing about a great director...he or she makes the film look effortless. A great director pulls performances out of every actor, the actor with one line all the way up to the leads. A great director is the silence in a piece music, the white space in a painting, the heartbeat of the film.

Gone Girl left me speechless, I had one of those moments where it ended and I could not move. I realized I had been holding my breathe for 2+ hours and needed to breathe in. All the while, I didn’t want it to end. Rosamund Pike was exquisite. She went on the kind of journey every actor yearns for. The layers and depth of “Amazing Amy” are indescribable. I know what it takes to become that present in a character. The level of commitment and dedication to the craft. To become so immersed that you don’t know where Rosamund ends and the character begins….Pike blurred the line and I am so thankful to have witnessed it. How exciting to see Ben Affleck shine. There was a vulnerability to him, that was so endearing and truly balanced Amy. I believed him. He played so nicely with his sarcasm and pain, and what a transition for Ben and Rosamund to pull the audience from loving their character to the complete opposite. Tyler Perry was impressive. He embodied the role and bought an interesting dynamic to the film.

There were moments when I screamed out, moments when I covered my eyes, and moments when I laughed out loud. As an actor these are the kind of moments that inspired me. When you watch a film...make sure to watch for the acting lessons, for the teaching beats that seep into your pores and stay there….ready to come out when it’s time for your close up.

Teachable acting moments to look for while you're watching (without spoiler alerts):
-The way Rosamund transition her character throughout the film: The transition from the beginning to the middle arch and then her second
major transition in the third act.
- The subtlety of Pike's performance....she wasn't over-acting the moments.
- The humor Ben brought to the role, in very serious moments, to add an additional layer of depth to the film.
- How Ben remained vulnerable throughout the film.
-Tyler's personification of the role he played. Using his own physicality to flush out the role.

Now enjoy the ride!

Being a balanced actor:- Creating space in your life for the things that truly matter.

I attended a Charity event for an organization that I’m very passionate about called Global Girl Media. It’s a non- profit that empowers girls by training them to become journalists who tell the kinds of stories that are often untold in mainstream media -- stories that give voice to girls of all backgrounds all over the world.  When I walked in I could immediately feel the outpouring of positive energy for this wonderful cause. I stopped to take a few pictures on the red carpet, then made my way back to the beautifully decorated backyard where a live auction was taking place. A bidding war for a one of a kind Andy Warhol was in mid-swing….one bidder upping the next….all in support of a truly great cause. The evening proceeded with heartfelt stories from some of the Global Girls themselves. One in particular truly moved me….she spoke of being the first to go to college, breaking the cycle of teen pregnancy in her family, and the power of organizations like GGM to inspire girls like her to tell their stories in a meaningful way.

It’s this interconnectedness that inspires and encourages me to continue growing as a person. As I grow as I person, I also evolve as an artist.  The night continued on with powerful conversations with the other guests. Talks of how we can continue to empower women. How artists have a voice and can use their platform to uplift others. The power of knowing yourself and sharing your story with the world.

The more we tap into this power, our inner voice, and the inspiration that lives within of each of us…the more we bring to our lives and to the lives of others. It's a truly beautiful thing.
